Biographical / Historical Note
Aztar Corporation was a gaming company based in Phoenix, Arizona. The company was known for operating hotels and casinos, most notably the Tropicana hotels and casinos located in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and Las Vegas, Nevada. Aztar Corporation was incorporated in June 1989 as a result of the gaming company Ramada Inn, Inc.’s restructure. Aztar Corporation gained some of Ramada Inn, Inc.’s assets which included the Tropicana hotels and casinos located in Atlantic City and Las Vegas, and the Ramada Express in Laughlin, Nevada. In 1995, Aztar Corporation added riverboat casinos to its operations. These were the Casino Aztar Evansville in Evansville, Indiana, and Casino Aztar Caruthersville in Caruthersville, Missouri. On May 19, 2006, the gaming branch of Columbia Sussex, Columbia Entertainment, announced a deal to acquire Aztar Corporation. The acquisition was completed on January 04, 2007.
