Biographical / Historical Note
Beginning with the establishment of St. Thomas Episcopal Church by Absalom Jones in 1794 there has always been a strong corps of Black members in the Episcopal Church. The organization of the Black Clergy and Laity was founded in 1968 and in 1971 the name was changed to the Union of Black Espicopalians. The objectives of the Nevada Chapter is to be an effective voice in advocating for broader participation of Black Episcopalians at every level of the church. It strives to eradicate racism from the church and the community.
