Biographical / Historical Note
Musician Hyman Gold was born in Cleveland, Ohio on August 26, 1914. A cellist since the age of twelve, Gold attended the Cleveland Institute of Music. He performed with many major symphonies and opera companies throughout the country. He was president of the Gold 'N' Cello Recording Company and performed on many albums.
Gold moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1973 where he played in many Strip hotel showrooms and also taught the class "Beginning Strings" at Cashman Jr. High School for four years. He was the founder and conductor of the Las Vegas Pops Orchestra and concentrated on free-to-the-public concerts. He regularly performed for hospitals, schools and churches.
Gold and his wife, Sue, both passed away on the same day, October 17, 2004.

Acquisition Note
Materials were dontated by the Hyman Gold estate in 2005; accession number 2005-001.
Materials were collected by the director of the Arnold Shaw Popular Music Research Center and transferred to Special Collections.

Materials were processed by Joyce Moore, 2005. In 2014, as part of a legacy finding aid conversion project, Kayla McDuffie revised and enhanced the collection description to bring it into compliance with current professional standards and entered the data into ArchivesSpace.
