Biographical / Historical Note

Robert Schlegel sold his bookstore, Bright Pink Literature, Las Vegas, Nevada's first lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) bookstore, to Wes Miller and Marlon Tinana in June of 1993. Tinana and Miller changed the name of the bookstore, located near East Naples Drive and Paradise Road, to Get Booked. In the LGBT newspaper the Las Vegas Bugle, Wes Miller explained that naming the business "Get Booked" was his response to a experience being arrested near the store location in 1992 and his political statement against police operations in the early 1990s. Get Booked became an anchor for the Las Vegas gay community and artists, writers, performers, and political figures frequently gathered for events. Miller became the sole owner of the store in 1994 after Tinana sold his shares and Raul Mangubat was appointed general manager in the same year. Get Booked remains in operation and is one of Las Vegas, Nevada's largest LGBTQ retailers.
