Biographical / Historical Note
Bella Tyktin Stern (1914-2001) was an avid traveler and resident of Las Vegas, Nevada. She was born in Bialystok, in what is now Poland. Her family fled west after World War I, stopping in Germany and Palestine before arriving in the United States around 1938. Stern taught English as a member of the Society for Ethical Culture in New York City. By 1963, she was an officer of the Universal Securities Corporation in Las Vegas, Nevada. During the 1980s, she worked as a guide for Nevada Discovery Tours. Mrs. Stern married, but never had children. Before her death in 2001, Stern was affiliated with many organizations and institutions, such as the Last Frontier Hotel, Sunrise Hospital, and the Educational Foundation for Foreign Study.

Materials were donated in 1988 by Bella Tyktin Stern and in 2022 by Dennis McBride; accession numbers 88-108, 2022-034.
Processing Note
Materials were processed by Special Collections Staff. In 2015, as part of a legacy finding aid conversion project, Franklin Howard revised and enhanced the collection description to bring it into compliance with current professional standards. In 2017, as part of an archival backlog elimination project, Melanie O'Keeffe rehoused and arranged the materials, and revised the collection description to bring it into compliance with current professional standards. In 2022, Tammi Kim minimally processed the 2022 addition during accessioning and updated the finding aid.
