Biographical / Historical Note
The Allied Arts Council of Southern Nevada (AACSN) was a Las Vegas, Nevada-based non-profit organization that promoted arts and cultural life in Southern Nevada from 1971 to 1999. As outlined in the May 1973 bylaws, the AACSN promoted the development of local, state, and regional arts appreciation. The organization fundraised and planned events such as Jazz Month, and the annual Masque Balls, Valentine Teas, and Umbrella Affairs to promote the arts in Southern Nevada. The AACSN also published a bi-monthly magazine, Arts Alive, from 1981 to 1992 that featured Southern Nevadan artists and art in mediums such as painting, dance, photography, theatre, and architecture. As an outreach program, AACSN instituted the long-running Class Act program in partnership with Nevada Power. Class Act brought performers and artists into Clark County schools to highlight the importance of the arts to students. In the early 1990s, AACSN first forwarded the idea for a Neon Park to preserve and showcase Las Vegas neon signs; the project was completed as the Neon Museum under the auspices of the City of Las Vegas. The AACSN ceased operations in 1999.
