Jon Eric Cobain is the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV)'s first graduate. As senior class president, he walked across the stage first, thus, becoming the first to receive a degree from UNLV (Nevada Southern University at the time). Cobain grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada where his father, an ironworker, built their home from the ground up. After receiving a business degree from UNLV, Cobain attended Northwestern for graduate studies where he worked in a number of international locations. Particularly, his work in Venezuela proved invaluable for future business connections, skill building, and learning other cultures and the importance of building international relationships. A native Las Vegan, Cobain is dedicated to the success of the city. In 2022, Cobain started a dollar-for-dollar matching program for the Jon Cobain Lee Business School up to $2.3 million dollars.

In 2022, Aaron Mayes digitized the material as a scan-and-return and created preservation masters and access copies of the digital files. Aaron Mayes wrote the collection inventory description, Sarah Jones entered it into ArchivesSpace and wrote the front matter.
