Abstract

The Frank Williams Papers on Early Nevada (1892-1946) consists of manuscripts written for the most part by Frank Williams, an early resident of Southern Nevada. The collection includes Williams' autobiography as well as histories of Goodsprings, Potosi Mine, Mesquite Valley, and the Yellow Pine Mining districts. Finally, this collection contains reports and material reflecting Frank Williams' two terms as University Regent (1909-1912 and 1923-1942) at the University of Nevada, Reno, and his four terms in the Nevada State Assembly.

Scope and Contents Note

The Frank Williams Papers on Early Nevada (1892-1946) consists of manuscripts written for the most part by Frank Williams, an early resident of Southern Nevada. The manuscripts document his life, local histories, various speeches, and articles regarding mining and gambling. The collection also contains information regarding miners and prospectors in the Goodsprings, Nevada area. It includes Williams' autobiography as well as histories of Goodsprings, Potosi Mine, Mesquite Valley, and the Yellow Pine Mining districts. Finally, this collection contains reports and material reflecting Frank Williams' two terms as University Regent (1909-1912 and 1923-1942) at the University of Nevada, Reno, and his four terms in the Nevada State Assembly.

Biographical / Historical Note

Frank Williams was born February 15, 1871, and at the age of twenty-one he left Kansas for Nevada and arrived on December 13, 1892. He made his home in Goodsprings, Nevada as a miner and prospector. He also served as a University Regent from 1909 to 1912, then again from 1923 to 1942. Williams also served four terms in the state assembly. He died December 19, 1947.
