The Nevada Protection of Marriage Initiative of 2000, also known as Question Two, was a piece of state legislation aimed at excluding gay and lesbian Nevadans from marriage. The controversial effort was initiated by the Coalition for the Protection of Marriage in Nevada, which mounted a petition drive to amend the state's constitution to forbid same-sex marriage. The petition drive was successful and the proposed amendment passed in both 2000 and 2002, as required by state law, and the constitution was so amended. On October 7, 2014, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals struck down the same-sex marriage ban in Nevada.
