Los Angeles, March 15, 1929. Mr. C. H. Bloom: Referring to your letter of March 13th, file 9215-34, in regard to determination of charges to be made against water users served by Railroad in the industrial development at Las Vegas: We suggest the following schedule: Size of Meter Pipe Cost of Meter Pipe Line & Installation Service Charge 5/8 x 3/4" 3/4" $ 12.60 $ 15.00 $ 27.60 3/4 x 1" 1" 20.00 15.00 35.00 1 x 1 1/2" 1 1/2" 28.00 15.00 43.00 1 x 2" 2" 28.50 15.00 43.50 1 1/2 x 2" 2" 52.50 15.00 67.50 2" 2" 75.60 15.00 90.60 These charges are based upon cost data secured from City of Los Angeles and the Belvedere Water Corporation and prices for meter obtained by purchasing Department. The City of Los Angeles makes a flat charge for a service connection, which charge is computed on the average cost of constructing 30' of pipe and installing a meter. where the consumer demands meter of corresponding size to the service connection, the City adds to its installation charge the difference between the cost of the smaller and larger meters. I make this explanation in order that there may be - 2 - no confusion in attempting to reconcile the Los Angeles Water Department's charge with the schedule above set forth. The City of Los Angeles finds that the average cost of 30' connection, labor and material, exclusive of meter, for all sizes from 3/4" to 2" inclusive, is 50 cents per foot. The charge for this work is therefore assessed at $15.00 and we have used this charge straight through our list. Added to this is the cost of water meter. The length of service connection along tangent track will be less than 20'. Where the service track curves away from the water main, the length will be longer. We believe, however, that 30' is a fair average and have based service charge accordingly. Frank Strong. W.H.J. WS:MS MAR 15 1929 CC- Mr. W.E. Rauch.
