Biographical / Historical Note

The Beckley name represents one of the few pioneer families that helped establish Las Vegas, Nevada. In Las Vegas the Beckley name represents two families: the Jake Beckley and Will Beckley families. Jake moved to Las Vegas in 1905 to start a lumber company with Ed Von Tobel. When the two split up Jake called his brother Will to join him in Las Vegas, and in 1908 the brothers created a men's clothing store. The two brothers met a pair of sisters; in 1910 Will married one of the sisters and in 1913 Jake married the other sister. Will Beckley and his wife had one son Bruce Beckley, who was an attorney in Las Vegas. In 1920 Jake Beckley brought attention to the Beckley name when he was part of the team that flew the first airplane into the Las Vegas airport.
