Biographical / Historical Note

Greenpeace was founded in 1971 by a group of anti-nuclear weapons activists, and one of the organization's primary goals was to bring attention to the dangers of nuclear testing. Since its founding, Greenpeace has been an active voice on environmental issues such as instituting commercial whaling bans, stopping nuclear testing, and protecting Antarctica. Greenpeace maintained an office in Las Vegas, Nevada from 1982 through 1993 as a part of the Greenpeace Pacific Southwest (GPW) region. The majority of Greenpeace's work in Southern Nevada focused on demonstrations and activism at the Nevada Test Site.
