Abstract
The JW Zunino Landscape Architectural Records (1986-2003) contain landscape and architectural drawings depicting work performed in Las Vegas, Nevada by JWZ. Casino work includes The Mirage Resort Hotel and Casino, the Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino, Tropicana Hotel and Casino, Suncoast Hotel and Casino, Caesars Palace, and Desert Inn Hotel and Casino. The type of casino work performed include creating master plans for gardens and walkways, as well as developing planting, irrigation, and landscape lighting plans. The records also include work performed for parks, residential properties, public and civil buildings, and commercial facilities.

Biographical / Historical Note
JW Zunino Landscape Architecture (JWZ) was founded in 1989 by Jack Zunino, who opened the firm in Las Vegas, Nevada after moving from Salt Lake City, Utah. As the first architectural landscape firm in Nevada to be a member of the United States Green Building Council, JWZ has experience in over three thousand projects throughout the Southwest United States, as well as international locations such as Aruba and South Korea. In completing more than $300 million in park projects, as well as a number of public, commercial, and resort casino properties, JWZ’s design team have accumulated more than sixty years of combined design experience in sustainability and environmental connectivity.

Jack Wayne Zunino was born July 13, 1948, in Elko, Nevada to John Wilson Zunino and Loretta Yvette Hansen. He earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Utah and a master's degree in landscape architecture and environmental panning from Utah State University. In 1989, Zunino established JW Zunino Landscape Architecture, a firm that became a cornerstone of landscape design in the Southwest. Under his leadership, the firm garnered a reputation for its sustainable and innovative designs, transforming both Las Vegas's public and private spaces. His work reflected the natural beauty of Nevada’s desert environment, merging aesthetics with functionality and sustainability. JWZ Landscape Architecture became synonymous with iconic projects, receiving numerous awards for creativity, environmental sensitivity, and forward-thinking design. A Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), Zunino also served as president of the local chapter. He was a mentor to many and he taught at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). An active member of the Las Vegas community, Zunino supported organizations like UNLV Rebels Football and Basketball, the Las Vegas Raiders, and The Smith Center for the Performing Arts. Zunino passed away on October 20, 2024 in Las Vegas.
