Abstract

The Samoset Chapter of the Colonial Dames XVII Century Records (1970-2022) consist of scrapbooks, volumes of meeting minutes and treasurer’s reports, and National Colonial Heritage Month proclamations from cities throughout Nevada. The materials document the Samoset (Las Vegas) Chapter’s activities, including chapter meetings, community service and events, gifts and scholarships, national and state conferences, and the chapter’s work to place a historic marker at Callville Bay, Lake Mead, Nevada.

Scope and Contents Note

The Samoset Chapter of the Colonial Dames XVII Century Records (1970-2022) consist of scrapbooks, volumes of meeting minutes and treasurer’s reports, and National Colonial Heritage Month proclamations from cities throughout Nevada. The materials document the Samoset (Las Vegas) Chapter’s activities, including chapter meetings, community service and events, gifts and scholarships, national and state conferences, and the chapter’s work to place a historic marker at Callville Bay, Lake Mead, Nevada. The scrapbooks contain photographs, newspaper clippings, correspondence, and event programs. One scrapbook primarily documents the Callville Bay historic marker placement, including correspondence with the National Park Service and other state governmental bodies, photographs, and historical documentation about the original Callville Bay settlement.

Biographical / Historical Note

The Samoset Chapter is the Las Vegas chapter of the National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century, an “organization of women who are lineal descendants of an ancestor who lived and served prior to 1701 in one of the Original Colonies in the geographical area of the present United States of America.” The Samoset Chapter was organized in 1970 and chartered in 1971. Members take part in genealogical research, support of education through various activities, and preservation of historic sites and documents.
