Abstract
This collection is comprised of personal papers and photographs of Reverend Maureen E. Mackey, M.D., physiatrist and co-founder of Rainbow Praise Church in Las Vegas, Nevada. The collection contents span the dates of 1922 to 2014 and details Dr. Mackey's life, including her educational accomplishments, personal life, and religious life. This collection also contains personal papers and photographs of Dr. Mackey's twin brother, Thomas Mackey, III, who passed away from AIDS in 1992. This collection also contains various photographs of Dr. Mackey's parents and family.

The Maureen Mackey Papers is comprised of materials spanning from approximately 1922 to 2014. Collection contents include journals, personal correspondence, and photographs representing the personal and religious life of Dr. Maureen Mackey, respected Las Vegas physiatrist and co-founder of Rainbow Praise Church, a bilingual-based faith community that provides support, especially for LGBT immigrants. This collection also includes scrapbooks, photographs, correspondence, and yearbooks kept by Dr. Mackey's family.

Biographical / Historical Note
Maureen Elise Mackey, M.D. was born in Teaneck, New Jersey on October 10, 1943 to Thomas Mackey, Jr., and Regina Morley Mackey. She also had a twin brother, Thomas Mackey, III who was born one day after her on October 11, 1943. Dr. Mackey was a member of the Sisters of St. Mary where she served on a mission to the Congo in 1961. At the end of her mission, Dr. Mackey entered the novitiate to begin her first career as a nun. While she was a member of the Sisters of St. Mary, Dr. Mackey earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Dallas in Irvine, Texas and became a high school science teacher. In 1971, Dr. Mackey left the convent to attend medical school at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston. Dr. Mackey later moved to Las Vegas, Nevada and worked as a respected physiatrist. In 1999, Dr. Mackey earned her Masters of Divinity from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, California. She simultaneously kept her medical practice open and also served as an ordained associate pastor of Metropolitan Community Church of Las Vegas until she retired in 2005. Together with her life partner, Mary Ellen Racel, and Reverend George Balgan, Dr. Mackey co-founded Rainbow Praise Church, a bilingual faith community that provides support, especially for LGBT immigrants. Dr. Mackey served as pastor emeritus of Rainbow Praise Church. She died on August 8, 2014.
