Biographical / Historical Note
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) was established in 1951 as an extension program of the University of Nevada, Reno. In 1954, the Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents established the Southern Regional Division of the University of Nevada, which was colloquially referred to as Nevada Southern University. In 1969, the school was officially renamed the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. UNLV has grown exponentially over the past five decades and is comprised of over a dozen colleges and three professional schools. As of 2020, UNLV has a total enrollment of over 30,000 undergraduate and graduate students.
