Abstract
The Nevada Test Site Oral History Project Records (approximately 1950-2008) consist of oral histories collected by University of Nevada, Las Vegas Department of History for the Nevada Test Site Oral History Project. The collection includes digital audio recordings of interviews, print and digital transcripts, and a small selection of digital video recordings. Some interviews have also been supplemented with photographs, letters, scientific articles, brochures, news clippings and ephemera about the Nevada Test Site.

Biographical / Historical Note
The Nevada Test Site Oral History Project (NTSOHP) research was conducted from September 2003 through July 2007 in the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) College of Liberal Arts Department of History with funding from United States Departments of Energy (award number DEFG52-03NV99203) and Education (award number P116Z040093). The Project collected interviews from over 150 persons affiliated with and affected by the Nevada Test Site (NTS), located in southeastern Nye County, Nevada, during the era of Cold War nuclear testing. Those interviewed include national laboratory scientists and engineers, labor trades and support personnel, cabinet-level officials, military personnel and corporate executives, Native American tribal and spiritual leaders, and peace activists and protesters. Ranchers, families, and communities downwind of the test site were also interviewed. The central goal of the project was to gather insights around questions and themes related to U.S. Cold War nuclear weapons programs through interviews with a wide range of people associated with the NTS. For the academic year 2007-2008, the University Libraries and the Department of History partnered in support of work on final interviews and the creation of the digital collection by University Libraries staff. The project was a recipient of the 2008 Oral History Association Elizabeth B. Mason Project Award Honorable Mention and 2010 National Council on Public History Outstanding Public History Project Award.

Materials were transferred to University Libraries Special Collections and Archives in 2007 and 2008 by the UNLV Department of History.
Processing Note
In the academic year 2007-2008, the University Libraries and the Department of History partnered on the creation of the online collection by the Digital Collections Department. Additional materials were digitized by Digital Collections staff in 2007 and 2008. In 2019, as part of an archival backlog elimation project, Hana Gutierrez began processing the physical materials and digital files stored on optical discs. Karla Irwin entered the description into ArchivesSpace in 2020. In 2023, Sarah Jones created the interview-level inventory and linked each interview to the transcripts available through the SCA Portal.
