Biographical / Historical Note

The Nevada Council on Compulsive Gambling (NVCCG) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to educate the public about compulsive gambling and the issues surrounding the illness. The NVCCG was formed in 1984 using the by-laws and organizational guidelines of the National Council on Compulsive Gambling. The Council is operated as a voluntary health agency, by a volunteer Board of Directors and a few professionals who volunteer their services. Its members are concerned citizens and reformed gamblers who hoped to stimulate the development of more community resources for treating compulsive gamblers. The Council is not a clinic, but aims instead to refer individuals and their families to appropriate treatment providers rather than providing extensive counseling services themselves; due to lack of available resources they have, however, engaged in limited assessment, intervention and motivational counseling.
