The Nevada Council on Problem Gambling Records (1962-2023) are comprised of administrative records, correspondence, publications, newspaper clippings, education and training materials, research files, and audiovisual materials. The materials document the Council’s activities to increase awareness of and provide education on problem gambling throughout the state of Nevada. The collection also includes correspondence, research files, and audiovisual materials documenting the Council’s partnerships with other state agencies with similar missions.

This collection was previously known as the Nevada Council on Compulsive Gambling Records.
In addition to records created by the Nevada Council on Problem Gambling, the collection includes records created by former executive director Carol O’Hare, such as correspondence, training and presentations, and audiovisual materials that relate to her work with the Council and as a subject matter expert on problem gambling.
Collection is open for research. Where use copies do not exist for audiovisual and born-digital materials, production of use copies is required before access is granted; this may delay research requests. Please contact UNLV Special Collections and Archives for additional information.

Series V. Audiovisual Materials, approximately 1984 to 2009.
Incorporated in 1984, the Nevada Council on Problem Gambling (NVCPG) is a non-profit organization and a state affiliate of the National Council on Problem Gambling. The Council’s mission is to generate awareness, promote education, and advocate for the treatment of problem gambling for citizens throughout the State of Nevada. Their programs and services seek to increase awareness of problem gambling and reduce its social stigma by providing information, resources, and training related to problem gambling as a public health issue. Carol O’Hare was the Council’s longest-serving executive director, from 1996 until her retirement in late 2023. Following O'Hare's departure, William Hartwell briefly served as executive director. Trey Delap took over as executive director in January 2025 and continues to occupy that role as of 2026. The organization was originally known as the Nevada Council on Compulsive Gambling.

Materials were donated in 2004 by Carol O’Hare; accession number 2004-019, and Trey Delap in 2025; accession number 2025-095.
The original box of material was processed by Dana Miller in February 2006.
In 2018, Joyce Moore revised and enhanced the collection description to bring it into compliance with current professional standards.
In 2025, Landon Paljusaj accessioned the additional 47 boxes of materials.
In 2026, Tammi Kim and Landon Paljusaj processed the 2025 addition, including rehousing the materials, and writing the finding aid in ArchivesSpace. Staff retained original folders when possible and devised titles for loose materials. Materials in binders were removed, foldered, and labeled with the binder’s title.
Kim transferred digital files off of original source media, created access copies, normalized file names, and entered the descriptions in ArchivesSpace. Some digital files were not transferred because the original source media was corrupt and UNLV Special Collections and Archives does not have the appropriate technical hardware. The original corrupted source media has been retained and described in the inventory.
Administrative Information
Acquired by Su Kim Chung, curator, and Kristian Taketomo, Curator for Gaming Collections, as part of UNLV Special Collections and Archives holdings on problem gambling. Approximately 6 linear feet of duplicate and out of scope material was returned to the donor. Digital files that contained duplicate information and personally identifiable information were reviewed and removed.
