Me EC.hGi.e f TEinltgoinn, eer, S.P,L.A.& S.L./RR CLos Angeles, California. o Dear Sir: • With regard to the Las Yegas 18* reinforced concrete pipe with drop of 2 7 . 5 feet/in a distance of 9 , 2 1 0 feet, I do not believe that the Welocity of discharge will ever be greater than four feet ber second. A velocity head of 0 , 2 5 feet and entry head4>f 0 . 1 3 feet would be required for such velocity, thus maMng O. 3 9 feet as the theoretical minimum distance that the pipe should be placed below the surface of the water of the reservoir. For practical reasons, however, it would probably be better to commence the pipe at not less than six or eight inches below the water surface. Yours very truly, Assistant Engineer.
