BUCK HERZOG He Bucks Tide of Nudity LAS VEGAS, Nev. - "The Strip of Nudity" would best describe about four miles of Las Vegas' most pretentibus, and neon bathed, resort hotels. There are many and each year more are added. And each vies with the other in putting on spectacular production numbers with the chorus girls less and less clothed. The trend to lavish stage attractions started 11 years ago when the American version of the Lido show from Paris was imported to the Stardust at a cost of $750,000. Untold millions have viewed the 11 editions of the show since then. The wigs worn by some of the show girls and dancers cost more than their costumes. They wear only smiles and wigs above the waist CREDIT FOR THE success of these "adult only" productions, brilliantly creative, must go to Donn Arden. He also directed the Lido shows in Paris and the highly praised production of "Pzazz!" at the Desert Inn. "Pzazz!" is one of the best shows I've ever seen in Las Vegas. Moreover, it's the one production, of many, Arden is most proud of. Shockingly, it leaves its show girls quite snugly clothed. The professional nudes, and certainly there are many in Las Vegas, are not too happy that Arden, who brought nudity to Vegas, suddenly is departing from his accepted pattern. "I see nothing wrong with family entertainment in Vegas," Arden says to his critics. IF THE SHOW isn't kind to nudes, it's also rough on the single acts. Indeed, it seems to bypass the stars. But with , the inclusion of nothing more earth-shaking than some fresh and delightful faces and some wit, charm and verve, j "Pzazz" shakes the earth pretty good ?╟÷ and Arden is pleased with his change of pace. If you're a young old timer, you might remember Arden around Milwaukee. He presented a single dancing act with the old Fanchon and Marco shows at the Wisconsin theater; with the late Eddie Weisfeldt and Carla Torney at the Riverside, and at Sam Pick's Club Madrid. Arden is now engaged in producing and directing the j "Holiday on Ice" revue for 1969 which, as all faithful fol-1 lowers know, eomes to Milwaukee next January. Los Vegas^ t$?½v?½$a TEGAS VISITOR LUSH SONG STYLING S BY Bambi McCormick are featured in the Frank Sennes, Donji Arden musical spectacular, "Pzazz! '68 at the Desert Inn. This ninety minute extravaganza of excitement pays tribute to famous Hollywood movies and its stars in slick and lavish production numbers running the gamut of the wacky '20's and musical '30 s right up to m the present mad, mod psychedelic trends. PZAZZ! '68 IN 5TH RECORD BREAKING MONTH ?╟÷ September 28, 1967 marked the gala opening of the Desert Inn's excitingly executed spectacular Pzazz! '68. Since that time it has played to over one-quarter of a million customers. The concensus-of opinion? "The Frank Sennes, Down Arden one hundred cast pro- dudttei out-dazzles anything that has ever appeared on the famed Las Vegas Strip." A look into past cinema history sets the nostalgic mood.
