RESERVATIONS CALL DU 2*6000 Desert Ittiif Las Vo^as Las Vegas, Sept. 22 I Eddie Fisher, Jack Durant, Art i Johnson, Ffolliott Chorlton, Dorm \ Arden Dancers (15), Carlton Hayes j 1 Orch (23); choreography by Donn) | Arden; $4 minimum. i Eddie Fisher has moved up-Strip | to Wilbur Clark?╟╓s Desert Inn, after I making his previous outings at the 1 Tropicana. His act here is basi- I cally the same; he has a well-bai- anced repertoire, shows savvy | [showmanship in song and patter, ; and is smoothly guided by Eddy I Samuels at the 88. On opening I night, Fisher?╟╓s pipes were properly preened, and he got an enthusiastic I reception for a turn that solidly clicks for eye and ear. i He sings a ?╟úNevada parody with the ?╟úGranada?╟Ñ music which pulls yocks from Las Vegas for such lyrics as ?╟úMy mudder and me If adder are hostages of Jack En-L tratter.?╟Ñ Other numbers include I ?╟úThe Simple Life,?╟Ñ ?╟úBye Rye Blackbird,?╟Ñ ?╟úJust In Time Phila- I delphia,?╟Ñ ?╟úI?╟╓m Glad I?╟╓m Not Young I Anymore,?╟Ñ ?╟úThere?╟╓s A Place For I Us,?╟Ñ a Jolson medley and a run- I down of his disclicks. Jack Durant is the bill-balancer ___he?╟╓s a Vegas fave and this room is like home for him. Consistent ! I laughs come to Durant for his ^ | breathless lines about wife and I other assorted trouble. A new production number ?╟úWhich Witch Is Which??╟Ñ is an- il other gem from Donn Arden s fertile mind. It features Art John- I son, Ffolliott Chorlton, 11 girl and ] four boy dancers. Show, backed ( [ with aplomb by the Carlton^ Hayes Friday, June 26, 1959 NIGHT CLUB REVIEW * STARDUST Las Vegas.?╟÷The superlative should be used cautiously and conservatively by any reviewer. With that observa- tion, it can be stated that this new show, ?╟úCa C?╟╓est L?╟╓Amour, imported from Paris, deserves the accolade sen- sational,?╟Ñ if any show ever unveiled on Vegas?╟╓ Strip has ever deserved such praise. Now for the details. Pierre Louis- Guerin and Rene Fra- day have produced and Donn Arden has staged a revue that is so chockful of gasp-provokers it is difficult to pick the best. , Alfredo Alaria, dancer, stars with his own La Ballet Alaria in three! out- standing numbers. Beverly Richard s lovely voice backs four production numbers. Jack Rains vocalizes m three presentations.' Marion Conrad as Mad- emoiselle Cha Cha Cha was outstand- ing in the opening number. John Juli- ano sang well in the Fantaisie Japon- aise. Bare bosoms took a backseat to the breath-taking gowns created in Pans and displayed with beauty by'the Les Bluebell girls and the Les Lido Mod- els The personal beauty of the girls surpassed those of the previous Pans show. Nine superb production numbers, magnificently staged with outstanding lighting effects caused the packed house to applaud long after the final Opening with Les Amours de Paris, the show traveled at a fast pace throughout. Following came Gua)ira D?╟╓Amour starring Alaria and his ballet. A light touch of humor slipped in with L?╟╓Amour en Miniature with the Les Marottes in a clever puppet presen- tation which received salvos ot ap- plause and laughter. L?╟╓Amour Exotique brought forth Marjii Lee as Madam Butterfly in a thrilling ice skating number backed by the vocalizing of Beverly Richards and Jack Rains. Bluebell girls and Les Lido Modeles wore plastic masks, as befit this routine. Les Lucky Latinos, three talented European brothers, presented an acro- batic dance number with comedy that tore down the house. Again, Alaria and his ballet group returned for Amour Brezilien which captured the fancy of the crowd The crowning effect of the show, The Giant Waterfall, stole the entire spotlight for the evening in Enchant- ment D?╟╓Amour with Alfredo Alaria, Maria Elena Roo, Beverly Richards and all the boys and girls. Comedy returned as the only act held over from the previous Lido show, Gerard Sety repeated his performance with the aid of his partner, a bus boy, which panicked the audience. Amours Royales A Versailles featur- ing Beverly Richards, Jack Rains and Marion Conrad brought the festive production to the finale, The Rain of Fire, featuring fireworks. The electronic stages, lighting, and the fine music of Eddie O?╟╓Neal and his orchestra combine to make this another sensational Lido show. And we mean sensational! ?╟÷Gene Tuttle
