M c N e i l H o u s i n g C o m p a n y L O S A N G E L E S , C A L I F O R N I A August 1, 1945 Las Vegas Land & Water Co. 422 West 6th Street Los Angeles 14, California Attention of Mr. Frank Strong Gentlemen: SOIL INVESTIGATION LAS VEGAS RESERVOIR - H-723 Enclosed are photostats, in duplicate, of three drawings showing the results of the soil investigations made recently by Mr. Kunkel. The exploration was made by drilling holes with an air hammer and drill and careful notes were kept of the soil material encountered. One exception to this method is Hole R~1 at the center of the proposed reservoir, which is a pit about 4 feet by 6 feet blasted out. It should be noted that the clay stratum at the depths between 2g and 6 feet, in this pit, carries free water. Water was also encountered at a depth of 8 feet in Hole SB-1 at the north end of the proposed settling basin. A series of holes was drilled along the north side of Charleston Boulevard in the mile between the reservoir site and the County Hospital. The original intention was to carry these explorations as far east as Main Street, but, as the easterly 2000 feet explored shows a complete uniformity of formation, it was not considered worth while to continue the work further. The drawings enclosed are as follows: Sheet 1. Locations of Holes on Reservoir Site. Sheet 2. Location of Holes on Charleston Boulevard. Sheet 3. Logs of Holes. lours very truly McNEIL HOUSING COMPANY L. G. McNeil
