?√ß?√ß?√ßPI A 12 THE COURIER-JOURNAL, LOUISVILLE, KY. Holiday on Ice The Super-Skilled in a Square Show By JEAN DIETRICH Courier-Journal Critic The Roman Colosseum probably never seemed more threateningly thunderous than Convention Center did last night during the opening performance of Holiday on Ice. Holiday on Ice, as is the custom, had stacked the house with Scouts, the Girls and the Boys, of all ages. For those who think Scouts may not have the strength they once had, let me say, they come on VERY strong in such numbers. And as Scouts are famed for being, they are foragers. Only in a case like this, there's no cooking over a little tin can in the woods. Today's Scouts make their way constantly to the concession stands in the lobby. When such a mighty army flows up and down the aisles waving cotton candy it's difficult to keep track of the doings on the ice. I can report that while Olympic champ Ronnie Robertson was doing his remark able whirls (and they are an exercise few of us can identify with) the children were pouring out for more food. For Every Age But when the chimps came on, knocking about a bit in a hockey game, the kids were paralyzed?╟÷if not electrified. What is there to say about Holiday on Ice, now having its silver anniversary year, that hasn't been said? Its skaters are super-skilled, its costumes and production numbers rival the Las Vegas strip. And for families who still want to play together Holiday on Ice is fast becoming one of the last bastions in today's mixed bag of entertainment. *?╟≤- It's a square show, but of course that's how it holds its grip. Every age can keep its cool during the immensely varied (glittering and comic) numbers that, this year, as always glide over the rink. The theme, all the holidays of the year, is an effective gimmick?╟÷though production numbers somehow, never really have much theme. But if you thrill to the physical precision of the skaters, or want to have a night out that the children will share (or eat through?╟÷thus not being a problem) you have through Sunday to make it all come true.
