NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of the City of Las Vegas at a regular meeting thereof held on the 1st day of October, 1958, that the said Board, by this resolution, expresses its gratitude to and publicly commends Lt. B. J. Handlon, Chief of Detectives of the Las Vegas Police Department, for his fine record in performing his police duties; for his loyalty and devotion to duty; and for his unselfish public service to the citizens of the City of Las Vegas. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be entered upon the official records of the City of Las Vegas. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a duly certified copy of this resolution be forthwith transmitted to Lt. B. J. Handlon of the Las Vegas Police Department. ADOPTED AND APPROVED this 1st day of October, 1958. Chief Sheffer advised the Board that Lt. Handlon intended to be present for the reading of this resolution but it was necessary for him to be out of town in line of duty. He asked Chief Sheffer to express his sincere appreciation. BID NO. 58.33 This being the time ^heretofore set for the opening of Bid No. 58.33 for the furnishing of Water Line all labor, materials, transportation and services for construction of water main and appurtenances 5th St., Washington & on Fifth Street, Washington Avenue and within the Lions Club Park more fully described in the Lions Club Park plans and specifications of said project, bids were received from the following firms: J. A. TIBERTI CONST. CO. $ 9,863.25 LONGLEY CONST. CO. INC. 8,253.65 GEORGE E. MILLER CO. 10,800.00 Commissioner Sharp moved the foregoing bids be referred to the City Manager and Director of Public works for analysis and recommendation. Motion seconded by Commissioner Fountain and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. HUNTRIDGE FIRE This being the time set forth for the opening of proposals for the outright purchase of the STATION Huntridge Fire Station, located at 1028-32 East Charleston Boulevard. The City Clerk opened and read a letter dated October 1, 1958, received from B.Hahlbn Brown, Attorney, written on the behalf of the Huntridge Development Corporation to the effect that due to the illness of Dr. Francis Griffith, major stockholder of the Huntridge Development Corporation, all affers or bids to purchase the Huntridge Fire Station property are withdrawn at this time, although it may be possible that in the future, if the property is still available, Mr. Oakey, President of the Huntridge Development Corporation, may be authorized to re-enter into negotiations. There being no proposals on the purchhse of the Huntridge Fire Station, no action was taken. At the hour of 8:05 P.M. the meeting recessed and reconvened at the hour of 8:20 P.M. with all members present as of the opening session. PROPOSED ORDINANCE Commissioners Bunker and Sharp, committee for recommendation on the proposed Uniform Housing Uniform Housing Code Code, requested additional'time before reporting. PROPOSED ORDINANCE Acting Asst. Fire Chief Trelease reported that one of the gas companies haa requested additional Liquified Petroleum time to enable them to submit the proposed ordinance to their home office for consideration Gas Code prior to the City Commission taking action. Continued Commissioner Fountain moved that consideration of the adoption of the Liquified Petroleum Gas Code Ordinance be continued until the next regular meeting of the Board of City Commissioners to be held October 15, 1958. Motion seconded by Commissioner Sharp and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. PROPOSED ORDINANCE Commissioners Sharp and Whipple, committee for recommendation on the proposed Taxicab Ordinance Taxicab Ordiaance requested additional time before reporting. PROPOSED ORDINANCE An ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION IV OF ORDINANCE NO. 378, REFERRED TO AS Rezoning SECTION 10, CHAPTER 24, CODE OF LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, 1949, BY AMMENDING THE LAND USE PLAN MAP ADOPTED BY THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS, AND CHANGING THE ZONING DESIGNATION OF A CERTAIN AREA OF THE SAID MAP, was read by title and referred to Commissioners Bunker and Sharp for recommendation. PROPOSED ORDINANCE An ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE TO REGULATE AND CONTROL THE POSTING AND ADVERTISING OF Motels RATES OF HOTELS, INNS, MOTELS, MOTOR COURTS, BOARDING AND LODGINGHOUSES WITHIN THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS; TO REGULATE AND CONTROL THE POSTING AND MAINTAINING OF OUTSIDE ADVERTISING SIGNS OF MOTELS, MOTOR COURTS, HOTELS AND LIKE ESTABLISHMENTS; PROVIDING DEFINITIONS OF TERMS USED; PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION THEREOF; PROVIDING OTHER MATTERS PROPERLY RELATED THERETO; AND REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 748, AND ALL OTHER ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT THEREWITH, was read by title and referred to Commissioners Whipple and Fountain for recommendation. EMERGENCY ORDINANCE An ordinance entitled: AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE TO REPEAL ORDINANCE 506 ENTITLED "AN ORDINANCE No. 774 ESTABLISHING HOLIDAYS FOR EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS, AND OTHER MATTERS PROPERLY RELATED THERETO" BY ESTABLISHING HOLIDAYS FOR EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS; PROVIDING OTHER Holidays MATTERS RELATING THERETO; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY, was introduced and read in full to the Board. City Manager Kennedy advised that the purpose of this ordinance is to change the City Holidays so that they conform with State Law for Governmental Jurisdictions and further advised that the reason for adopting it as an Emergency Ordinance is so that it will be placed in effect prior to October 12, 1958, which is Columbus Day, one of the Holidays to be eliminated. Two other Holidays are eliminated as a result of this ordinance; they being Washington's Birthday and Lincoln's Birthday. Commissioner Whipple moved the above entitled Ordinance No. 774 be adopted. 10-1-58
