"Folies Bergere" came to the Tropicana on December 24, 1959, and has gone through several adaptations. Jerry Jackson, creator and director of "Folies," has been a one-man force in revamping the production, designing costumes, composing music and lyrics and choreographing the show since 1975. Nudity factor: All 10 p.m. shows feature topless dancers and are open to those 16 years of age and older. Show length: 90 minutes. Refreshments: Two bars that sell drinks and other refreshments are located at either end of the theater. Produced solely for the Tropicana, "Foiies Bergere" is the longest- running production show in the United States. Jackson has done a brilliant job of capturing "Folies'" French flavor. In the cancan segment, an audience favorite, high society meets street performer as acrobats flip across the stage and from ledges while dancers kick up their heels, all dressed in lavish costumes. It's one big party, Parisian style. The show is at its most whimsical in "By the Sea." Here, showgirls prance around in bathing suits, only to disrobe behind their umbrellas. But male dancers soon raid the party; the light effects make the segment reminiscent of a black-and-white film as the men chase the women, who lose their towels while making an escape. Dancer Ua Malcolm, who performed ballet, ballroom and jazz dances, steals the spotlight with her graceful and limber moves, at one point twisting her body inside out through her arms. Her every moment is a joy to watch. And juggler Wally Eastwood is truly amazing as he juggles golf balls in his mouth and plays a piano with softballs. Finally, the lighting in the fabulous Tiffany Theatre is nothing short of remarkable. The brilliant light patterns are as much a part of the show as the showgirls.
