, Freeman PUB NBC-TV "Wide,Wide World" Live Pickup at Sands 1# On October 16, NBC starts huge new network show called j "Side,Wide World" featuring live pickups on 90-minute program, Sunday from 1?╟÷2$30 PM, over 154 stations to 35,000,000 viewers. Sponsored by General Motors. 2. First program features 12-minute pickup from Lake Meade showing Donld Campbell trying for new world?╟╓s record in his speedboat. Cost is $35,000 for 4 camera pickup, involving micro?╟÷wave towers on mountains around Lake. 3. On Sunday, December 4, program is based on "America?╟╓s Playgrounds" featuring live pickup from Havana, with program beamed from Havana to airplane over ocean to Florida for transmittal to US. Top US resorts are to be featured, such as Miami, Sun Valley, Grand Canyon with Eddie Fisher singing on precipice, etc. 4. Relationship with Roy Neal of NBC, West Coast producer for This new program and with Barry Wood resulted in talks about including Sands on this show. After checking with NBC in New York about including gambling resort, Neal got OK to feature a live pickup outside Sands, showing some event or show at poolside, featuring sun and fun aspects of Vegas. 5. Idea would be for 3 camera pickup of an event at Sands pool, such as fashion show, Third Anniversary Party featuring some stars in informal appearances and/or performances, or any other idea we might create to feature on 8-10 minute live network pickup. 6. Both Wood and Neal stated we might be asked to pay cable and phone line costs ?╟÷ about $7500. They explained that tremendous cost of the show each program, about $250,000, necessitated them trying to get line costs when they do such a pickup. They stated they got $10,000 from Mexico's government when they featured a remote live network pickup there last month, and that Phoenix even offered $15,000 to get in on this show. 7. Wood and Neal both stated they would have telephone company submit exact costs incurred, to verify that they only wanted to get cable costs back on such a remote. This is unusual for NBC to do, and they both explained it was offered because of our record for cooperation with NBC and relationship with working people there. 8. If we can create a good show idea, recommend OK on this promotion, cost at about $7500, (Network time is $7800 per min, BEVERLY HILLS,CAL. ?╟≤ 449 SOUTH BEVERLY DRIVE ?╟≤ CRESTVIEW 6-4326 A1 freeman
