There were only about 150 who didn't bring rebel cards. Increased attendance with community and family members this year, a lot more kids, which was really good. I definitely don't think it's a good precedent to start waiving bylaws from the first mtg. I'm going to push back due date to November 5th at 5:00and appointment to the 8th. VII. PUBLIC COMMENT EMMANUELLE LEAL: an offensive phrase was said to a senator by another senator. I am one of several... here today. Please be mindful of what you say outside of this room. You do not know if a fellow student hears you and does not know you are joking and may be offended. Other fellow students here were ... ESTER VALE: I'm also a concerned student, just the fact that an offensive phrase was said to a senator, so you guys were voted in and elected by the students. Don't forget that. We ask for respect as much as we respect you. KATHERINE MACDONALD as read by SENATE PRESIDENT AMESQUITA: congratulations-DIRECTOR ARNESON on a job well done. He exceeded my expectations. Vice President Goatz did a great job, doing a variety of duties from ticket sales to trash. He went beyond the call of duty, even staying after for the clean up, which nobody ever wants to do. Most of all I was imperessed with his ability to deal with students and student volunteers. Vice President Goatz leads by example and he is someone who should be recognized for it, I'm just sorry that I couldn't be there to do it in person. JUAN PLATA: want to emphasize more on what was previously mentioned. I don't usually like speaking in public, so if I took time to come here in person, that shows a lot. I'm not familiar with you, it makes an impression on me. I want to emphasize the importance of what you say. RONNIE COCHRAN: introduces himself, just here to observe. VIII. As submitted by Senate President Pro-tempore Cianci on behalf of the Executive Board. SENATE PRESIDENT PRO-TEMPORE CIANCI: move to approve SENATOR SUMNER seconds SENATOR MAYER leaves early at 8:26pm VICE PRESIDENT GOATZ: he had surgery last Friday. SENATOR MULLINAX: there are certain situations where we should meet and greet, but our marketing director is doing a great job, and it's on behalf of the e-board. Manuel's been working his butt off I think it would be in poor taste not to approve him. SENATOR BOWERS: VICE PRESIDENT GOATZ, what would the assistant be doing? VICE PRESIDENT GOATZ: example, two or three weeks ago, he put Shawna in charge of..., Gonzalo has already been involved. SENATOR JIMENEZ: I'm not sure, but I think he's graduating this semester. VICE PRESIDENT GOATZ: I wasn't aware of this. There's nothing wrong with graduating in December. Manuel will have to find a new assistant. He's been helping him as an assistant. SENATOR MULLINAX: it takes five minutes to get a new assistant director. If he's graduating, it shouldn't be an issue. SENATOR ESPINOZA, SENATOR BOWERS, and SENATOR MACK oppose SENATOR CONWAY abstains 16-3-1 item PASSES NEW BUSINESS A. Action Item: Approval of Senate bill 34-38, which proposes changes to Bylaw 67. SENATE PRESIDENT PRO-TEMPORE CIANCI: move to combine and approve new business c and d SENATOR CAZARES seconds SENATOR ESPINOZA: is this on c? SENATE PESIDENT AMESQUITA: combining and approving c and d. SENATOR ESPINOZA: I don't agree with things being put in after the event happens. SENATOR SUMNER: I don't know if you guys listened to what he said, but he was right on. It's a bad business practice. Pay attention to that. SENATOR CAZARES: do we always pay for seats for the alumni homecoming dinner? 10 XI. BUSINESS MANAGER HILL: regarding the 1,000,1 put it on the agenda as soon as I got the invoice. VICE PRESIDENT GOATZ: we're going to be getting a lot of stuff from Ruckus, so I'm just giving you the heads up now. SENATOR BOWERS: how were the seats...? SENATE PESEDENT AMESQUITA: PRESIDENT SCHUCK has final call. It boils down to whether homecoming court is going or not. There were about 16. E-board, DIRECTOR ARNESON, his sister, date. People backed out to go to Michael Moore. I was there, VICE PRESIDENT PRO-TEMPORE ANDERSON, VICE PRESIDENT GOATZ, Angela ...,..., Ea, SENATOR MULLINAX, it wasn't as eventful as last year. SENATOR TEMPLETON: I agree with SENATOR SUMNER, I understand the circumstances, but this information should be available to the senate beforehand. SENATOR MULLINAX: I think it should be understood that sometimes it's just a formality. Like DIRECTOR ARNESON can't put everything right in front of us all the time. He has to give it to us afterward. But this happens every year, this year it just took longer. It's just going to happen sometimes. SENATE PESIDENT AMESQUITA: I'll go ahead and take the blame, I know some of the annual things that do come up, I didn't think about telling Henry because we were so busy. Henry had a lot of stuff going on. I'll try to foresee things in the future. SENATOR CRAWFORD: we know that rebel ruckus is going to happen. If we have to vote on something afterward, that's okay, but things like this, we were kind of blind sighted. It's bad business practice. SENATOR MACK: I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for these two things. 18-2-0 SENATOR CRAWFORD and SENATOR BOWERS oppose SENATE PRESIDENT PRO-TEMPORE CIANCI: move to move out of order of day to approval of minutes SENATOR CRAWFORD seconds 20-0-0 motion PASSES D. Approval of $582.00 to be paid to the Computing Resource Center for repairs to the color printer in the Directors' Chambers. Cost to be 11 encumbered from the CSUN FY05 Office (Equipment) budget. As submitted by Senate President Pro-tempore Cianci. XII. EXECUTIVE BOARD SUMMATIONS VICE PRESIDENT GOATZ: in the future we'll send out an e-mail. It's easier than calling an emergency meeting. Applications for Elections Director are out and available at info desk SENATOR BOWERS: last meeting, Schuck said he'd buy pizza for everybody. Was there pizza? SENATE PESIDENT AMESQUITA: constitutional revision and bylaws, could you both please, either on disk or hardcopy, preferably on disk. I need them by Wednesday please, the complete copy so I can easily take it down to Repro or Kinko's and make mass copies of the new ones. You all need to give DIRECTOR BOURDET congratulations or thanks. PRESIDENT SCHUCK sick so he over and over again, this event could not have happened without everybody. It was a team. He was so excited. We don't know what we'll do next semester to top this semester. Ruckus was a success. First time I've heard of and E and P event that had more students in attendance than community members. I apologize to Alex. There was miscommunication, he will have something on for next agenda. As far as R.H.A., 11th was national coming out day. That's why we had guess whose gay. Three guys and three girls. They ask non gender questions. It went along with the theme last week. We have plasma screens, marketing director,... meeting in the chambers, Krista, can you hold in conference room, not in the chambers. Have your meetings in the conference room. Questions, come see me. Items for next week, if it's not passed, it dies in senate and moves on to November 1st. Got e-mails for new senator elects today. The reheat will be Sunday the 24th at ten in the morning. XIII. GOOD OF THE SENATE SENATOR MACK: UNLV was represented at Tempe, Arizona by the college republicans. We were interviewed on MSNBC, CNN, etc. SENATOR BOWERS: thanks DIRECTOR BLOOD for giving us full access to everything. Have a good week. SENATOR ESPINOZA: commend everyone on good week with ruckus and Michael Moore. SENATOR JIMENEZ: we had a good week. We got new computers in. The republicans are providing shuttles to go vote. See you guys Sunday at 10am so we can show the new senators what to do. SENATOR CONWAY: peace. 12 SENATOR MULLINAX: as far as voting goes, don't vote just to vote. Make an educated decision. I understand that a lot of you guys are leaving, the body language in here, the comments that are going on, we're all professionals, but I don't think we're acting like it. Maybe for just a couple meetings, we should dress up. If you're passionate about something, say it, don't snap at them. We're not in kindergarten. As far as homecoming, if you voted for me thank, if you didn't, kiss my butt. SENATOR FRIEDLIEB: check the polls. I was under the impression that on this agenda, we'd have the contract that we approved would be on it. Mike, thank you for offending me by saying, "Thanks Theatre, Major." SENATOR KRISTA DONNELLY: just want to remind everyone that family weekend is nov 5,6,7. on October 21st, Thursday at 5, campus safety and awareness. I had a lot of fun with Michael Moore thing. Senator Bowers and I went to AARP conventiona and we passed out Michael Moore things and got people excited about it. My sister's on e and p and she had to drive Yellowcard around and they kept trying to tip her and she kept saying that's okay, it's my job. And she's like wanna listen to the radio and she turned it on and it was Yellowcard. SENATOR KARA DONNELLY: Rebel Ruckus was a lot of fun. Meeting Yellowcard was definitely a fun thing. E and P board is a lot of fun. Michael Moore, good turn out there. It's good to see some of the newly elected senators here tonight. I don't understand what was said, or who said it but I wish that you would have confronted the senator yourself rather than having people speak for you. SENATOR ZANDER: talking and positively contributing are two different things. Some people repeat exactly what someone else said and it's a waste of everyone's time. Have a good week. SENATOR SORVONGSAVANH: if you haven't seen Team America, World Police, that movie is kick butt. SENATOR DEARMAS: want to reiterate, Wednesday, 3:30 is candidate carnival. SENATOR TEMPLETON: on the plasmas, You'll see an advertisement for youth.. .it's a program I'm part of. if anyone wants to speak regarding the mysterious allegations during public comment, we can discuss after. SENATOR CRAWFORD: went to Michael Moore, it's cool we made back all our money. I wanted to hear what he had to say... SENATOR SOLDANO: I thought Michael Moore event was awesome. There are 3 pages of negative feedback, you should log on and respond. There's a lot that students that are misinformed about. 13 SENATOR CAZARES: Michael Moore: a few of my co-workers went and we had a huge debate during lunch. Listened to interview with Yellowcard. Also, college of engineering having career fair in November with food and... SENATOR HUERTA: going back to the whole budget thing, maybe just a little e-mail would be nice. I think I was watching CNN this morning and I guess we took a survey and we're going to vote Bush in. Rebel Ruckus, I got to help set up stage and hang out with interesting people. SENATOR SANTIAGO: I also got a lot of feedback about rebel ruckus and Michael Moore. This guy in my class, his roommate was the guy who got dragged out. New computers upstairs are really nice but we need something where everyone can use the CSUN log-in. SENATOR SUMNER: as far as Michael Moore, people say negative stuff, encourage the people who liked it to post. Think before you give money for a survey again. The public comment thing, if you have issues, talk to the person about it. SENATE PRESIDENT PRO-TEMPORE CIANCI: good to be back. There were quite a few good movies on last week. I don't know what happen, but I'm glad it wasn't me these people came and talked to. Nonetheless, I was happy to see that they were not talking to me. As far as Michael Moore, I don't care for him, however, it did attract a lot of people and spur a lot of debate. Hopefully we can get Sean Hannidy. As far as the money being spent before it was approved, it's bad business practice. It's a huge delegation of power and it's horrible in the eyes of the senate to... XIV. ADJOURNMENT SENATOR KRISTA DONNELLY motion to adjourn SENATOR BOWERS seconds 20-0-0 PASSES unanimously Meeting adjourned at 9:11pm ***ALL MINUTES ARE SUBJECT TO SUMMATION*** STUDENT SENATE PRESIDENT SENATE SECRETARY MICHAEL J. AMESQUITA, JR. SONG KIM 14
