Highlighting the top-name acts is a covey of chorines who star in a lavish theatrical production, staged by Donn Arden. The orchestra is conducted by composer JAMES DARREN, romantic young singing star of motion picture and recording fame will take his first bow before a Reno audience this week when he moves into the headline spotlight in the all new State Fair Frolics that opens Tuesday in the 7th foor Fun Room at Harolds Club in downtown Reno. Darren enjoys national popularity for a recent series of hit pop records and for his starring roles in several Columbia motion pictures. His latest role was a lead in "Gidget Goes To Rome" and prior to that he starred in "Diamond Head," "The Guns of Nava- rone,'' and "Gidget Goes Hawaiian." NEW ADDITION to the Mapes fine lineup of entertainers is Holly Winters, sensational vocalist featured with the Art Mooney Orchestra and Show now in the Show Room and the Sky Room of the Mapes. FOOTLITES: New local vidshow On the horizon. Beginning Monday, the Alan Abner Showcase will be aired on KOLO-TV as a 45-minute variety show (beginning at 11:15 p.m. cm Mondays), with live entertainment, personality interviews.
