September 11, 1966 MrV- Clarence A. Strouse, Jr . 5331 Beverly Hill Lane, Apt. 1 A Houston, Tex., 77027 Dear CAArence: Nicd to hear from you. I know you'll like the tournament. We will seed the field as best we can, going on the basis of what we know of the players. If we get some very good rubber bridge players who have never played in tournaments we may be fooled, but we expect to even out the sections. The first two days each pair will meet 6 pairs per day in matches of 8 hands each, taking about 1 hour per match. Each match will be played on the basis of straight rubber bridge (not Chicago), with practically no fancy bids allowed. (We will post a. list of "standard* bids, and no pair will be allowed more than 3 deviations from that.) Any pair that wins 6 or more matches of its first 12 will be qualified for the knockouts. All. ethers will paly in the Consolation. Knockout matches will be 12 hands pr match for the first two roudds. Then 16 hands per irdttch for a few rounds, and then up to 20 $ands and more in the later rounds. Exact details will be decided when we see the size of the entry and the number of qualifiers. We want to finish the whole shooting match by Thursday night if possible. I will have ACBL jrofcrn ament directors to give rulings (from the Rubber Bridge Lawbook) and Sands Hotel floor men!, to watch for any other kind of irregularity. Nobody who has worked in the gaming industry in Nevada during the past five years is eligible. Anybody who deals in a suspicious manner will begiven thebumsrush. 1 don't expect an y trouble of this kind, but I will be ready for all contingencies. We expedt a large number of Alice people who play good bridge and are out for a pleasant time ?╟÷ and we aim to keep it that way. So you will fit right in ?╟÷ and I hope you win a prize. We will weMorae you and your fAsinds with open arms. (I had too much wine for dinner, and my typing shows it !) Please mail an entry in advance if you can. It helps to know who is coming. Best regards. Alfred Sheiiswold
