LOS AN&ELES - Sept, 22, 1948 Files 174-2 Mr, B.F, wengertt (oo: Mr# Calvin M. Oor;/ * Lag taftas) Referring to Mr* Story* s letter to me of Sept* 18# oopy to you, In connection with the Ploohe water oituation: 1 -agree with Mr. dory that tills Is a policy natter and although I would not be inclined to formally terminate the old contract for the furnishing of free water to us* I do believe that #e should offer to voluntarily pay a monthly sum for this water to the Receiver.* 1 do not know Just-how much that till amount to each month as the only information I have along that line is contained in Mr. Paulsen's latter to you of July 12th, oopy to me# wherein he advised we were billed *12 for the month of June. X note in the letter from Kr. Martin, District Attorney of Lincoln Geunty, dated Sept* 1st to Mr. Gory, oopy of tfhioh you have# he advised that they placed a meter on the railroad line. I think m should find out from Mr. Martin whether the Receiver has any set schedule of rates for water .and if so, determine what amounts he feels due from as for the months subsequent to June, to him, and then offer to make voluntary payments of a stipulated monthly amount irrespective of the meter reading# as a matter of friendly relations with the town people of Pioche. If and when a new organization is actually formed, then I do think it wo Id be, likewise, a matter of good policy to terminate the old water contract with the water company and pay the rates so fixed by the Nevada Public Service ^amission, p_ ||j| ' Lastly, may I not suggest that instructions be . Issued to ouf people in Ploohe to conserve water rather than waste it as Mr..Martin suggests Is being don®. 1 S. E, Bennett
