The Venetian Room and the Georgian Room Of the Peabody were arranged to resemble your cAS.i...No.i?╜AND-^BAR. On the stage, OUST AS YOU DO, WE HAD THE ORCHESTRA AND ENTERTAINMENT. DOWN ONE WALL WE HAD A LARGE BUFFET. TABLES WERE SET SO THAT THOSE ATTENDING COULD EAT OR DANCE WHEN THEY WANTED TO. THE CASINO PORTION HAD 5 CRAP TABLES, A ROULETTE WHEEL, A CHUC-O-LUCK AND AN OVER-AND-UNDER TABLE AND A 21 TABLE. ENCLOSED YOU WILL FIND SAMPLES OF THE PHONEY MONEY THAT WAS USED. WE HAD $500,000 OF THIS PRINTED. EACH PERSON WHO ATTENDED THE CONVENTION RECEIVED $500,000 IN * A N ENVELOPE. At THE END OF THE GAMBLING CASINO ON VERY ATTRACTIVE RACKS AND TABLES AND PLATFORMS WE HAD SUCH GIFTS AS TELEVISION SETS, FISHING OUTFITS, RADIOS, SETS OF DISHES, 6 MONTHS SUPPLY OF GROCERIES AT $20.00 A WEEK FROM KROGERS AND MANY, MANY OTHER ELABORATE GIFTS. AlL OF THESE HAD A PRICE ON THEM. IF THE PERSON WON MONEY AT THE TABLES THEY COULD BRING IT TO THE CHECKER, HAVE THEIR MONEY COUNTED AND BUY WHAT THEY WANTED WITH THE AMOUNT THEY HAD. YOU NEVER SAW SUCH ENTHUSIASM, WATCHING THE EXPRESSIONS ON THE GUESTS* FACES MADE ME ALMOST BELIEVE THAT THEY FELT THAT THEY WERE GAMBLING WITH REAL MONEY. At 11 PM the ORCHESTRA GAVE A FANFARE AND IT WAS ANNOUNCED THAT THE 5 DAY VACATION AT THE JSAND8 HOTEL WOULD BE DRAWN AT THAT TIME. ONLY THOSE PEOPLE WHO HAD REGISTERED FOR THE CONVENTION GOULD PARTICIPATE IN THE DRAWING. Mr. and iMRs..,Jj?·MRY. Buck of the Wagner Company of Memphis were the lucky wTnnERs" I HIS COMPANY THAT HE HEADS DOES PRINTING AND SCREENING AND DECAL work. They will let me know in a few days when they expect to arrive at the Sands?╟≤ They will have with them a letter to the hotel identifying them as the winners.
