    Revi etf-J ournal April 23, 1950f Commission Ads To Save City’s Precious Water ' Anticipating an acute water shortage during the coming1 summer, the city commissioners! late Friday adopted an amend­ment to local ordinances prohib­iting the use of water for lawn® between the hours of 9 AM and 6 PM and midnight to 6 AM.( The new order becomes effec-j tive June 1 and will continue through September 15, the com­missioners announced. The board also authorized Acting Po­lice Chief Archie Wells to hire, at city expense, two special of­ficers to enforce the amend­ment. The board said it plans to in­augurate an intensive water con-j servation program during the summer season. Recalling the situation, as. re­gards the Water supply, which : was faced last summer, the city has agreed to lend every sup­port to a Campaign to conserve the precious liquid. The Las Vegas Land and Wa­ter- company, last summer, said it had reached the end of its; resources in supplying addition­al water for the community, and j unless .the citizens co-operated in conserving water, it was quite ! likely that there Would be a cpn- tinued shortage. i
