New Business A. Approval of waiving bylaw 4 for Dick Hubbel to be CSUN Vice President Pro Tempore. This requires a 2/3 vote of the Senate. B. Approval of reducing January 1989 in half for all CSUN Directors, all KUNV Directors, the Editor of the Yellin' Rebel and Managing Editor of the Yellin1 Rebel, and all CSUN Assistant Directors. Call To Order CSUN Senate President Jack E. Spicer Jr., called Senate Meeting 19-6 to order at 4:00pm in MSU 201, (meeting room was changed to 201; a sign was posted to aware people of the change.) II. Roll Call Present Senator Elliott Senator Cozine Senator Geihs Senator Polovina Senator Frankulin Senator DeMars Senator Bauhs Senator Hoffman Senator DaQuino Senator Walker Senator Dreibelbis Senator Bailey Senator Valenti Senator Wilcox Senator Colebrook Senator Rosenberg Senator Hoferer Senator Saunders Senator Young Absent Senator Kurzer (Excused) III. Approval of Senate Minutes 19-5 Motion to approve by Senator DeMars. Seconded by Senator Frankulin. There was discussion and corrections. Call for a vote. Motion carried with changes, nineteen in favor, no opposed, and one abstention (DaQuino). IV. Announcements CSUN President Steve Evenson passed out a copy of Quicksilver to the Senate. He announced that the Executive Board excepted Miguel Palmieri's resignation from Appropriations Board Chair and CSUN Vice President Pro Tempore. He announced that Miguel Palmieri is no longer a part of CSUN. CSUN Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Bailey announced that the retreat for the Senators will be January 14th at Mt. Charleston. He wished everyone a Merry Christmas. CSUN Senate President Jack Spicer thanked everyone for showing up at the meeting. He mentioned that the meeting would only last until 4:30pm. V. Board and Committee Reports VI. Executive Board Nominations VII. Unfinished Business VIII. New Business A. Approval of waiving bylaw 4 and approving Dick Hubbell as CSUN Vice President Pro Tempore. This requires a 2/3 vote of the Senate. Motion to approve by CSUN Vice President Jennifer McGinty. Seconded by Senator Dreibelbis. There was discussion. Call for a vote. Motion carried, unanimously. B. Approval of reducing January 1989 stipends in half for all CSUN Directors, (except Yellin' Rebel Editor, Yellin' Rebel Managing Editor, KUNV Programming Director, Video Yearbook Editor, Video Yearbook Assistant Editor, KUNV Community Affairs Director), and all CSUN Assistant Directors. Motion to approve by Senator Walker. Seconded by CSUN Vice President Jennifer McGinty. There was discussion. Call for a vote. Motion carried with sixteen in favor, four opposed (DaQuino, Saunders, Dreibelbis, Bailey), and no abstentions. Senate Meeting 19-6 Page 3 12/15/88 XI. Open Discussion Chief Justice Joe Bunin swore in Dick Hubbell as CSUN Vice President Pro Tempore. CSUN Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Bailey announced that the retreat for the Senate would be a lot of fun. He also mentioned that Kari Cozine would be his first assistant. Senator Dreibelbis mentioned that he would like to see Dick Hubbell stay on as OPI director, as they had let Miguel Palmieri stay on as Appropriations Board Chair before. Senator Saunders wished everyone a Merry Christmas. She hoped that everyone's finals had gone well. She also thanked Senator Cozine for her help. Senator Hoferer wished everyone a Merry Christmas. Senator Colebrook wished everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Senator Wilcox wished everyone luck that still had finals. Senator Walker wished everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Senator DeMars congratulated Dick Hubbell on his new position. He thanked Senator Geihs for the Christmas card. Senator Bauhs thanked Senator Geihs for the Christmas Card. Senator Valenti thanked Senator Geihs for the Christmas Card. She also mentioned that she was sorry to see Miguel Palmieri leave. Senator DaQuino mentioned that he would miss Brandi Hoffman. He wished everyone a Merry Christmas. Senator Hoffman announced that she would miss Senator DaQuino. She also mentioned that she was behind Miguel Palmieri in what every he choses to do. Senator Polovina mentioned that the Miguel Palmieri situation was not under the hat yet. She yielded the floor to Miguel Palmieri. Miguel Palmieri announced that he resigned from the Vice President Pro Tempore and Appropriations Board positions do to distress. He felt that CSUN President Steve Evensfen's actions weren't fair. He wanted to maintain his position as Appropriations Board Chai'r but Shelly Berkley said that the proper procedures were followed. He felt that he was a victim of unnecessary humiliation and embrassment. He felt that the whole situation was handled unprofessionally. Senator Frankulin passed out a copy of the Scarlet Letter. He hoped that everyone taould have a nice Christmas. Senator Young wished everyone a Merry Christmas and that everyone would drive careful. Senator Geihs mentioned that he was sorry to see Miguel Palmieri leave. He felt that the Executive Board Was put in a difficult position, and they were forced to make a decision. He felt that the Executive Board did the right thing. He announced that Miguel has done a good job in CSUN. He wished everyone a Merry Christmas. Senator Elliott wished everyone a Merry Christmas. Senator Cozine mentioned that she was glad to'that she was chosen to be Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Bailey's first assistant for the Senate Retreat. CSUN Vice President Pro Tempore Dick Hubbell thanked everyone for their support. CSUN President Steve Evenson announced that when he took the job as CSUN President he knew that he wouldn't be popular. He announced that he wouldn't resort to the same tactics as Miguel Palmieri. He tried to keep the problem private, but he is no longer going to take the fall for Miguel's mistakes. CSUN Vice President Jennifer McGinty announced that this is her last Senate Meeting. She mentioned that the Scarlet Letter is a part of the Organizations Board and had asked for funding for the edition that was put out. She felt that the $392.00 that was scent for the publishing of the newspaper and was money well spent from the Organizations Board. CSUN Senate President Jack Spicer thanked Senator Geihs and CSUN President Steve Evenson for Christmas cards. He thanked Philip DaQuino and Brandi Hoffman for serving on the Senate. He thanked Jennifer McGinty CSUN Vice President for her service oft the Executive Board. He mentioned that Quicksilver and the Scarlet Letter looked good. He wished everyone Happy Holidays. CSUN President Steve Evenson mentioned that he is happy in his life due to all of the people that are around him and which he works with.
