Page 2 WHEEL OF ROTARY SEPTEMBER 8, 1949 FOR TODAY Rotarian Jim Duma way, Hawthorne, California, known to some of the boys as the "Buckaroo Mortician", is our gu.est speaker for today.... Jim's sub-ject will be "One T7orld With Rotary". Jim is one of our favorite speakers and we anticipate an interesting talk. ************ LAST WEEK Our friend, Judge McNamee, gave us a very good talk on his recent trip to Europe and the continent, and compared the present with his trip of two years ago. The Judge flew this trip, and made ncte that now no visa is required to enter each country separately as was required two years ago. He states that the people were fearful of the Marshall Flan, in 1947, as they felt it might be a deal in which the US would dominate the world. Sentiment has changed, particularly in France. There is no rationing in France, but prices are high. France is not worried about Russia. They do wonder, however, how long we can feed the world and how long the people here can stand the tax-ation necessary to feed the world. Bel-gium is better off than France. Italy is trying to recover. England is no better than two years agoj Socialized medicine has been the breaking straw for the English people. Doctors are two years behind in getting glasses, etc., for patients. It is an 'awful' experiment for the English people. Britons are allowed one pound of meat, 2 eggs, no milk for adults, per week. Hotels have no soap. Gasoline is h: The picture for England isn't a happy c Q Q ^ NOTES ON LAST MEETING Barry Miller, Deputy Sheriff, serving jury duty summons at Rotary — and he paid for it tooj A1 Cahlan, who ran off before meeting was well started, was to be panned for the headline on J . M. Murphy as "Murpsy". Hho does the proofreading at the R-J? * * * * * * * * * * * * * * DEEP FREEZE NEEDED? <7e are informed that Bob Gate-wood's Cadillac is in the repair shop. Reason: hit a cow out in Arizona. Anyone having a second-hand deep-freeze outfit, see Doc. ************* BABY ROTARIAN Ray Germain will be intro-duced today as a baby Rotarian; classification—Additional Active Printing, with "Scoop" Garside. *******#***** BOULDER CITY NEXT NEEX President Leonard, assisted by Max Kelch, Scoop Garside, Bob Russell, Ed Converse, Sam Kurtz, Allye Lawson, and possibly some others, will visit Boulder City Rotary meeting next week and con-duct the program for President Jim Jacobs Judge Frank Mc- Namee will be the speaker with his interesting report on England, France and Belgium. WHEEL OF ROTARY Page3 BOARD MEETING The Board of Directors and Club Scrvice Committee will meet Monday evening at Pres-ident Fayle's residence, 1123 Francis Ave, ****************** DISTRICT GOVERNOR COMING District Governor Ek Ek Hiestand will pay his official visit to Boulder City on November 9th! Las Vegas, November 10th, with a joint meeting of the two clubs at Hotel Last Frontier the evening of Nov.10. a************:: **** JOHN BOICE One of our 100%ers, John Boice, with his Rotary Ann Grace, are checking in reg-ularly via make-up cards. They were in New Albany, Indiana, last week, viewing Churchill Downs race track. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * CARL HYDE Carl made up last week in Hollywood. Bet he's down there showing those movie actors how to use big words. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * AL3AYS MAKE UP Doc Sylvester and Sebastian Mikulich always make up their attendance THE WEEK BEFORE THEY MISS! Yet U.S. Rotarians never have a majority of the Board of Directors. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * VISITING ROTARIANS . ANDY LATHAM, CLARENCE liATSON, JACK HIGGINS, J. R.
