That many persons have thrilled to the many stage spectaculars that Frank Sennes has produced during an illustrious career that spanned two decades on the fabulous Las Vegas Strip alone. No other entertainment chief has come close to matching the production achievements Sennes has chalked up in the world's entertainment capital. Among his most notable productions were the two editions of "Hello America," which ran for three years at the Desert Inn. Besides winning every showgoer's heart and a slew of patriotic awards, "Hello America" received an unprecedented Congressional tribute. This unique accolade *^ was inserted in the Congressional Record in August, 1965 after a stirring salute delivered on the floor of Congress by Massachusetts Congressman Thomas P. O'Neil at the suggestion of House Speaker John W. McCormack. Few showgoers will ever forget "Pzazz '68" which ran for a brilliant fifteen months at the Desert Inn. Presented on the grandiose scale that has become a hallmark of Frank Sennes-produced shows, it was hailed by show business experts and the public alike. But "Pzazz 70 and All That Jazz . . . Baby!" is expected to usher in a new show biz era as the first true superspectacular. Spectacle on the most lavish of scales . . . massive regiments of beautiful showgirls . . . production numbers breathtaking in execution and costuming ... sweeping dance routines ... specialty acts with a continental flavor... electrifying disasters whose portrayal seemed impossible of accomplishment on a showroom stage. No wonder this and the many other Frank Sennes-produced blockbusters have been such box office bonanzas! Created, Staged and Directed by Donn Arden ; perhaps the best way to describe what is Opulence ?╟÷ tempered with impeccable good taste- meant by "The Arden Touch." In the world of night club entertainment, the words "Donn Arden" and "spectacular" are synonymous. But the lavish use of spectacle is not the principal reason for the enormous success of this brilliant master showman ?╟÷ it is his consummate ability to coordinate everything so perfectly within the framework of his eye-filling presentations. During his three decades in show business, Arden has almost single- handedly raised the standard of night club entertainment to its present respected place in the field of entertainment. His brilliant shows in New York, Paris, Las Vegas, Hollywood and Miami have created a standard of excellence which others strive for, but seldom achieve. Arden's association with the Desert Inn shows is in itself something of a show business saga ?╟÷ he has been directing all of the hostelry's stage productions for almost 18 years, since the very day it opened. But his finest achievement in Las Vegas will unquestionably be "Pzazz 70 and All That Jazz ... Baby!" Never before in the desert resort's history has any offering ever garnered such enthusiastic advance interest from the press or greater audience response. This extraordinary attraction ?╟÷ certainly the most elaborate extravaganza in the annals of stage entertainment?╟÷may change the whole concept of show business in Las Vegas. International recognition of his achievements includes many honors, among them the Grand Prix in France and the Golden Runway and Silver Masque awards in Italy ?╟÷ all for his great contributions to stage techniques. Production design by Harvey A.Warren Harvey A. Warren, production designer, graduated in 1940 from the University of Washington, Seattle, with a Bachelor of Architecture degree (a five year course). During his undergraduate years he studied theater arts and was active designing costumes and settings for little theater. After two years in architecture engineering and four years in photographic intelligence with the navy, he returned to his first love, the theater (if you can call motion pictures the theater). Starting out as a set designer for R.K.O., he was quickly promoted to illustrator. Five of his eight years in the motion picture industry were at 20th Century Fox designing properties, furniture, fabrics, stagecoaches, chariots, and even animal wardrobes, for such epics as the Academy Award winner, "The Robe." In 1954 he was asked to design sets for the revues that opened the "Moulin Rouge" in Hollywood. That same year the Desert Inn in Las Vegas engaged him to design all their productions which have included the two editions of "Hello America," "Pzazz '68!" and the new superspectacular "Pzazz 70 and All That Jazz . . . Baby." He is also credited with all the Lido Revues from Paris which have been showing in Las Vegas at the Stardust Hotel since 1958. For these shows he goes to Paris about every fifteen months for production designing. On these trips, he has taken time to see all of musical theater in Europe, chiefly opera, ballet, and musical comedy. Mr. Warren lives in Santa Monica, California, with his wife and two sons. Aside from his Las Vegas shows, he designed "Ice Capades" for four years, added scenes to "Fanny" and the whole production for the revival of "Guys and Dolls" for the Los Angeles Civic Light Opera Association, and the opera "Hansel and Gretel" for the Opera Guild which performs for the Los Angeles City school children. Music Composed and Arranged by Jim Harbert Jim Harbert has often been described as a musical genius. He has the credits to prove it. At age eleven, Jim was a regular member of the Oklahoma Symphony Orchestra where he played trumpet for eight years before entering the Curtiss Institute of Music in Philadelphia on a full scholarship and graduated with honors. He also acquired a degree in journalism before entering the Korean war. After his military hitch, a major advertising agency lured him to Hollywood as an account executive. For personal relaxation he began writing pop music and came up with "This Was My Love," which was recorded by Frank Sinatra ?╟÷ and )im instantly got out of the advertising business. Soon other hits followed and name artists such as Sammy Davis Jr., Tony Bennett, Nancy Wilson, Doris Day and a host of others began to regularly record his songs. Columbia Records signed him to produce albums, but Jim was drawn to the excitement of show writing through meeting Leonard Adelson. He has never lost his fascination for this most difficult of all theatrical mediums. Among his numerous credits are the Ice Capades, six editions of the Lido show in Paris and all of the Desert Inn shows for the past eight years. Original Lyrics by Leonard Adelson Lenny Adelson was in his second year of law school at USC after taking a degree in speech when he was tapped to write the school's varsity show and had such a ball that he decided to make it a career. The first song he ever wrote professionally was "Calla, Calla" which Vic Damone recorded and it became one of his greatest hits. Many other song hits followed, but to prove his versatility he wrote "Sandra" for the Civic Light Opera and the show ran in Los Angeles for two and a half years. Lenny dates his association with Donn Arden back to the days of the Moulin Rouge in Hollywood. But between writing the lyrics for musical extravaganzas he has amassed a long list of movie credits that began with Walt Disney's "The Living Desert" through "Flare Up" which will soon be released by Warner Bros. Seven Arts. Next on Lenny Adelson's full agenda is the new Broadway show "Molly" being produced by Seymour Val which is scheduled for a winter season opening this year. Costume Design by William Campbell Bill Campbell received his training at UCLA in Los Angeles and the Academie Julienne in Paris. His background has varied from Advertising Art Director for Gumps in San Francisco to Las Vegas where he created the costumes for many lavish shows. For the past several years he has been staff costume designer on the Hollywood Palace and the Dean Martin television shows. He is also designing costumes for Ice Capacjes with whom he has been associated for the last four seasons. _?·_ .
