I agree.Mr. Jayaratne was born in Colombo, Ceylon, on J :1904. After attending St. Thomas College and Ananda College, he entered the University of Ceylon where he fulfilled the curriculum requirements of the London School of Economics ?╟≤V and received a B.A. degree granted externally by London^ University. In February 1927 he entered the Ceylon Civil Service as a Cadet. From 1927 to 1951^ he served in various minor capacities in the local and central government offices in Ceylon. In 1951, Mr. jayaratne was appointed Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Trade and later served in a similar capacity in the Ministries of Transport 'and Works (1953)v Transport and Power (1959), and Defense ?√ß and External Affairs (1960). He attended the :16th Session ?╟≤ of the United Nations General Assembly as an Alternative Representative of Ceylon. In early 1962 the Ambassador was^ appointed Chairman of Air Ceylon, which post he relinquished on being named Ambassador to the United States. He arrived . in the United States in March 1963 and presented his creden- tials to the President on April 8, 1963. Mr. Jayaratne is married and has five children.^ One^ son' is enrolled as a student in George Washington University, Washington, D.C., while the other children and grandchildren are in Ceylon. Both Mr. and Mrs.Jayaratne have travelled widely in Great Britain and Europe and speak English fluently. Mr. Jayaratne is a Buddhist.
