I agree.?√ß3 5 EXT MINING CAMP - DAY This is the remains of what hash een home# love and the persult of happiness for forty years to Andy, whom we shall now describe since he does not appear in the opening scene* As a matter of fact, the only living creature we see at first is Clara, a burro, mule, donkey, jackass or what have you* Clara s only attribute which distinguishes her from the world of beasts of burden are her eyes# Her lovely -soulful, understanding "big browns"# Andy, as we were saying, is the classical old prospector ?? bearded, dirty and charming (in his own particular style}# He has been in these here hills, working this here olaim, for forty odd years. And god knows they were odd, for in all that time he has had no one to talk to except Clara ~ who Is a good listener# He also talks to other good listeners, such as ?╜ his coffee pot, his gold pan, an occasional rook, the wind and the sun and the stars* And now as we first see HIM, he comes scampering out from behind a rock and heads toward Clara, who is fully packed and ready for travel. He is carrying a sack of gold and he is talking to it# e ANDY Thought you'd outsmart me and hide out, didn't you? Thought you'd stay in these hills. Well, no such luck# I found you and I dug you up, and now that I got you I'm going to show you a little about high living# (he approaches Clara and secures the sack on her back) What do you think of that, Clara# Here we are all ready to pull out, and I almost go off and forget my goods# Shows you how scatterbrained people are# You ought to be glad you're a Jackass# (Andy turns now and looks back at the old camp) Well, so long, Hills# You been mighty good to me# Hope you don't think I'm deserting you, but you got to understand a man can't sit in one place all his life# A man craves fun and excitement ?? the high life# But I ain't ever going to forget you, you can bet on that# (he breaks out in a great laugh) CONTINUED
