Lee Among Sports' Best l Dr. Samimy Lee, one of America's most outstanding Olympic performers, will be among those honored at the third annual Sportmen's World Awards banquet in Las Vegas on June 28. ! The genial physician, a springboard and MgMiving champion for 15 years, was a heavy favorite in the waiter sports category. According to ballots cast by more than a hundred leading sportscasters and sportswriters across the' country. Dr. Lee will be one of a doz- en athletic greats of the past to receive golden ?╟úVictor?╟Ñ sta- tuettes, symbol of the Sports- men's World Awards. The event at the Sands Hotel is sponsored by the Sportsmen's Club for the City of Hope, with proceeds going to sup- port the free, nonsectarian 'Pilot Medical Center. A native Californian, Dr. Lee rose to sports prominence whgn he won the national AAU outdoor platform diving crown in 1940, representing Occidental College. Two years later, he captured the senior 3-meter springboard and plat* form diving championships, representing the Pasadena * A.C. He repeated the platform diving title in 1946. ?║ As an Olympic competitor, Sammy Lee proved to be a worthy ambassador as wen as outstanding competitor.
