The Princess and Lucybird stiffen anxiously and exchange glances. DUKE (continuing) A sound that illusions the roar of the sea. A trick of nature. Nothing else. PRINCESS (relieved) Of course. But a pretty thing. May I have it back? DUKE (returns shell to her) It is harmless. But keepest thee away from that gargoyle. PRINCESS Away from the gargoyle. Why? DUKE I noticed the base is loose. It might fall one of these days and hurt someone. It wouldst pain me to find my lovely charge injured. Pray, stay away from it. PRINCESS As you wish. Come, Lucybird, it is time for my bath. The Princess turns and starts off, followed by Lucybird. 61 SHOT - THE DUKE He watches them go then turns and glances back at the gargoyle. He crosses over to it, CAMERA PANNING him and sneers at the statue. As he turns to start away something hits him in the head. He spins around o^id looks down, picks up something. It is another sea shell, He glares back at the gargoyle then strides off angrily, tossing the shell aside. 62 CLOSE - GARGOYLE It almost smiles, pleased with itself. WIPE TO:
