COMPANY pub/fc/sts PLANNING BASIS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS: 1, The Convention Hall will be ready about September 1959, only 18 months away. Big conventions are usually booked 2-3 years in advancet smaller conventions at least 1 year, 2, To justify a $4,000,000 Convention Hall, it should be used on the following schedule: a) 2 conventions for at least 10,000 people each. b) 5 conventions for at least 4-9,000 people each. c) 15 conventions for at least 1-3,000 people each. d) 20 conventions for at least 400-1,000 people each. e) 5 trade shows, fairs, etc. for 25,000 people each. This info based on San Fransisco convention schedule, observations by experienced convention people in LA,NY. 3. Las Vegas has certain unique advantages over established convention cities such as NY, Chicago, SF, and Miami. We cannot compete in size or access, but we can offer: a) more entertainment and recreation facilities than the cities above combined ?╟÷ to answer the problem: nwhat do we do tonight after the meeting?'* ?╟÷ or ?╟÷ "what can we do with wives, others not engaged in the meetings or business of the day?" b) steady fine weather all-year around ?╟÷ with rare chances of a convention being spoiled by hurricane, cold rain, cold spells, etc. c) facilities open 24 hours a day the year around ?╟÷ an attractive inducement for convention planners harried by rigid time schedules, curfews. d) great natural tourist attractions and facilities?╟÷ Lake Mead, Mt. Charleston ?╟÷ and outdoor facilities for unusual outdoor events such as barbecues, outings, etc., which are impossible to arrange in the older cosmopolitan convention centers. 4. We have possible for promotion of Las Vegas ----- $35,000 ?╟÷ now in present budget. $38,500 ?╟÷ supposing we adopt recommendations of 2/1/58. $110,000?╟÷ possible additional income per Grant Stewart. $283,500 ?╟÷ maximum possible funds available for promotion.
