Page 2 WHEEL OF ROTARY THANKSGIVING MEETING Wednesday, November 23, 1949 THANKSGIVING Today, a. Rota-Wanis meeting to celebrate Thanksgiving Day. You Rotarians, note the day — Wednesday, the day before Thanks-giving. Our speaker of the day is Major William S. Taylor, wing chaplain from Las Vegas Army Air Force Base. Major Taylor has recently been transferred here from the Canal Zone and resides with his family at the Air Base. This is the thirteenth Thanks-giving joint meeting sponsored, by the two clubs, with the officers of the two clubs taking turns at pre-siding. . . . President Harvey Dicker-son of the Kiwanis Club presided last year; in 1948 Ed Ciliax. Before that—how far back can you remember? It is a pleasant custom to join with our friendly Kiwanians and. in the opinion expressed by many, the custom of joint meetings should be oftener carried, out. * * * * * * * * * * * * Tom Taney, Editor of the Kiwanis News & Noise, joins with the Editor and reporters of The Wheel of Rotary in preparing this edition. There was a very pleasant lunchcon meeting Mon-day noon, in which plans for the meeting were discussed and this edi-tion planned, * * * - Kiwanis Interclub meeting was attended by seven guests from Gardena. Bob Kaltenbom and Bob Griffith were the hosts. KIDS DAY Kiwanis observed National Kids Day with an address by Rt. Rev. John J. Lambe. Saturday, November 19th was Nation-al Kids' Day. Jimmy Fidler is Nation-al Chairman. There were free Kids' shows at El Portal and Huntridge Theatres. * * * * * * * * * * * EDITOR TOM SAYS: I met with five Rotarians to write this "Wheel". Now these old codgers (I suppose he was referring to Allye Lawson, Jimmie Shaver and Bob Gate-wood) may be old in years, but their stories still have youth. (Signed) TANEY * * * * * * * * * * * TABER GATEHOGD DIES We deeply sympathize with Dr. Bob Gatewood in the death of his brother, Taber Gatewood, who passed away last November 10th, at Sawtelle, California. He was permanently disabled in World War I and has been confined, to the hos-pital nearly thirty years. He was 50 years of age at the time of death. Al-though he was hopelessly ill, his death when it finally came was a shock to all the surviving relatives. * * * * * * * * * * * AN INTERESTING DISCOVERY We observe through the news dis-patches from the Far East that one of the most interesting discoveries rela-madein of inveCt^ WHEEL OP ROTARY Page 3 tions made by a brother of Rev. Winston Trevor, until recently, when he moved, away, a member of Boulder City Rotary Club The discovery consisted of a roll of parchment twelve or fourteen feet long on which was written in the language of the time of Christ the en-tire Book of Isaiah,..^ The discovery has a most profound influence on our knowledge of the scriptures. It was said to have been discovered in a cave where it has been buried for centuries. * * WILSONS HOME After roaming the continent for ap-proximately three months, Weary and Betty Wilson are home again. * * * * * * * * * * * * * LAST WEEK AT ROTARY Last week, the Rotarians heard a most interesting discussion of the Fair Labor Practices, especially with respect to misunderstandings which may result from insufficient knowledge of its terms, by Roy Flippin. Carl Hyde introduced the speaker, whose business it is to advise the Las Vegas Business and Employers Associa-tion on how to conduct their business without inadvertently running afoul of the provisions of the Act. PRAISE TO GOD, imORTAL PRAISE Praise to God, Immortal praise For the love that crowns our days; Bounteous source of every joy, Let thy praise our tongues employ; All to Thee, our God, we owe, Source whence all our blessings flow. As Thy prospering hand hath blest, I-'Iay we give Thee of our best; by deeds of For Thy mercies grateful prove; Singing thus through all our days, Praise to God, immortal praise.
