Subj: June Minutes * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS GROUP OF SOUTHERN NEVADA Minutes of the Meeting of Board of Directors and Officers of Holocaust Survivors Group of Southern Nevada (HSGSN) at Temple Beth Sholom, June 23, 2003 Present: Henry Schuster, Anita Schuster, Harold Blitzer, Jean Lesser, Ludwig Bauer, David Berkovits, Sam Chinkes, Gina Klonoff, Alexander Kuechel, Lydia Lebovic, Benjamin Lesser, Perry Oehlbaum, Pola Zimmerman. 1. The Meeting was called to order by President Schuster at 12:05 PM. 2. The Minutes of the Board Meeting, November 14, 2002 were distributed. 3. The Board expressed thanks Henry Kronberg for arranging the breakfast prior to the Meeting, and to the Women's League of Temple Beth Sholom for their service. 4. Treasurer Jean Lesser reported that the current Account for HSGSN is $5,773. 5. President's Reports and Old Business a. President Schuster informed the Board HSGSN is now officially a "tax-exempt" organization. b. HSGSN had a successful Buffet at the Sun coast Hotel on April 13, 2003 c. HSGSN participated at the Yom Hashoah commemoration at Ner Tamid, April 30, 2003. d. HSGSN had a booth at the Israel Independence Celebration on May 4, 2003 at Sands Expo e. Many survivors attended the moving ceremony on the occasion of the dedication of the Warsaw Ghetto Remembrance Garden at Temple Beth Sholom, May 18, 2003. 1. President Schuster introduced Mitchell Gilbert of the Jewish Family Service in Las Vegas. g. The website of HSGSN is under http://www.iewishlasveaas.com and urged members to contribute. 6. New Business a. The Curt and Gila Kaufman Co., approached HSGSN for contributions to a Video Documentary they are planning, "Shadows from the Past", some aspects ofthe Jewish life in Vienna. There was much discussion about this project, particularly since Kurt Waldheim was one of their sponsors. b. The problem of generating interest among children of Survivors to keep the tradition and word alive was discussed. It was suggested that an effort should be made to have some children of Survivors sign a commitment that they, once a year will read one of the stories left behind their ancestors who were survivors. There was much animated discussion and the matter was turned over to a Committee, for discussion and to bring back a Report to the Board. The Committee consists of Henry Schuster, David Berkovits and Gina Klonoff. Wednesday, June 25, 2003 America Online: anitahenry!926 Page 2 of2 7. Meeting adjourned at 1 :00 PM. It consisted first of buffet brunch, followed by a talk by Las Vegas TV's news channel 8's Consumer Advocate, Michael Geeser.
