(ADAM glares angrily at EPHRAIM and DANIEL) As MRS. McCLANE starts for the house, EPHRAIM and DANIEL start shoving each other, ad 1 in accusing each other of starting the problem. The other brothers start to return to work, when MRS. McLANE notices FRANK eating the pie. MRS. MCCLANE Oh no! My pie. The one I baked for supper. That's it! I quit! ADAM (placating her again) Aw new Mrs. McClane. Frank, apologize for eating the pie. FRANK I apologize fer eatin' her pie. (FRANK.resumes .eating her pie.) MRS. MoCLANE That's all you beys do is apologize. Apologize, apologize, apologize. (To ADAM) NO One woman alive could keep this place in order. Why it'd take me a month just to get the house to where normal folks would think it's only dirty.....I'm goin' in to.pack and I want to be taken into town today, today you hear? SHE storms into the house. ADAM follows after but she slams the door in his face. ADAM kicks the door. All the other brothers laugh. ADAM turns and glares at them, then opens the door. As he does so, MRS. McCLANE throws the bird cage' at him.
