The ?√ßisvenf Ibis year will honor elev- en outstanding athletes of the past whose championship per- formances and exemplary per- sonal conduct have served as an inspiratioft to people in aH walks of life. Sponsored by the Sportsmen?╟╓s Oub for the Qty of Hope Medi- cal Center, the gala will be hosted by popular radio and TV host Art Linkletter, assisted by special celebrity guest presen ters and star entertainers. The show is being syndicated for na- tional television by Metromedia Producers Corp. Proceeds go to support the City Of Hope in furthering its programs of patient care, scien- tific research and medical edu- cation in the battle against cata- strophic disease. The honorees, chosen by a blue ribbon National Selections Committee ?╟≤ f o r sportswriters and sportscasters Across the country, will be flown to Las I Vegas by TWA, of ficial carrier I for the S p o r t s m e n?╟╓s World I Award. SPORTSMENS WORLD AWARDS EVENT Irv Terry, president of Wilkins Regulator Co., Los Angeles, will serve as chairman of the 3rd annual Sportsmens World Awards honoring Hall ELGIN BAYLOR (left), captain of the Los Angeles Lakers, and Rudy La Russo (right), San Francisco Warriors, look over the Hall of Fame trophy along with Irv Terry, who is chairman of the Sportsmens World Awards to be held June 28 in Las Vegas. La Russo is co-chairman of the event. Hotel in Las Vegas, Nev., on June 28. The annual event, attended by more than 1,500 guests, attracts the world?╟╓s most famous sports figures. Some of the prospective honorees who have been nominated for 1969 are Bob Feller, from baseball; Rocky Marciano, boxing; Sonya Heine, ice skat- ing; Jack Kramer, tennis; Sammy Baugh, football; Emil Zatopek of Czechoslovakia, and Bob War- madan, track and fiield. Art Linkletter will act as master of ceremonies for the important affair, held as a charity event for the City of Hope, when the victor will be pre- sented. The event will be televised on a national basis from 8:30 to 10:00 p.m. PDT during the presentation on June 28. Irv Terry, long active in sports circles, including the ?╟úFight for Lives?╟Ñ boxing event, heads Wilkins, which has been manufacturing water pressure regulators for home and industry since 1904. Winners to be honored in- clude Rocky Marciano, Peter De Pao- lo, Dr. Sammy Lee, Sammy Baugh, Bob Feller, Ted Lindsay, C. K. Yang, J. Donald Budge, Paul Endicott, Cor- nelius Warmerdam and Lloyd Man- grum. KTTV will tape the event for air- ing the same night and again on July 12. Co-producers are Hal Parets and Bill Walker with Della Reese, Rip Taylor and Don Cherry performing in the show with Cyd Charisse, Dean > I Jones, Connie Stevens, Clint Walker and others as presenters of the awards.
