    RESOLUTION Pat McCarran Bid No. 54.36 Electric Bulbs Opened Bid No. 54.37 Concrete Slab Opened ACCEPTANCE OF NOTICE We, the undersigned Mayor, Commissioners, City Manager, Assistant City Manager and City Attorney of the City of Las Vegas do hereby admit due service to the foregoing notice of Special Meeting: C. D. BAKER WENDELL BUNKER HARRIS P. SHARP GEORGE H. ROUNTHWAITE HEX A. JARRETT HOWARD W. CANNON REED WHIPPLE Las Vegas, Nevada September 29, 1954 (CALL OF SPECIAL MEETING) A special meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the City of Las Vegas, Nevada, held this 29th day of September, 1954, was called to order at the hour of 7:30 P.M. by His Honor Mayor Baker with the following members present: Mayor C. D. Baker Commissioner Wendell Bunker Commissioner Rex A. Jarrett Commissioner Harris P. Sharp City Attorney Howard W. Cannon City Manager George Rounthwaite City Engineer George E. Wade City Clerk Shirley Ballinger Absent: Commissioner Reed Whipple At this time the Clerk read the resolution prepared concerning the death of Senator Pat McCarran. Thereafter Commissioner Bunker moved this resolution be adopted and spread on the minutes of the Board. RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the Mayor and Board of Commissioners of the City of Las Vegas have learned with deep sorrow of the death oh September 28, 1954, at Hawthorne, Nevada, of United States Senator Pat McCarran; and WHEREAS, Senator McCarran was from 1932 until his death one of the United States Senators from the State of Nevada and has always rendered valuable aid and counsel to the people of the State of Nevada and to the citizens of the City of Las Vegas; and WHEREAS, during his long career he has served not only in the legislative branch of the State of Nevada but also in the judicial branch, and during his entire career in public life, he has endeared himself by words, actions, and deeds to the people of the State of Nevada; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of the City of Las Vegas, Nevada, that the condolences of the members of said Board are hereby noted over the passing of an outstanding public figure and our sympathies are extended to his widow, her children, and all other surviving relatives of the deceased; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the minutes of the City of Las Vegas, Nevada, and that a copy be delivered to Mrs. McCarran, and then when this body adjourns at the completion of business today, it do so in memory of this distinguished servant to the people of the State of Nevada. Baker City Clerk Mayor Motion seconded by Commissioner Jarrett and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Jarrett, Sharp, and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. Absent: Commissioner Whipple. This being the time heretofore set for the opening of Bid No. 54.36 for the furnishing of Electric Light Bulbs for the City, proposals were received from the following firms: OSBOURNE & DERMODY 40% and 2% STANDARD WHOLESALE 38 % SAVIERS ELECTRIC 40% SHOCK ELECTRIC 40% and 1% Commissioner Bunker moved the foregoing bids be referred to the City Manager for computation and recommendation. Motion seconded by Commissioner Sharp and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Jarrett, Sharp, and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. Absent: Commissioner Whipple. This being the time set for the opening of Bids No. 54.37 for the installation of a concrete slab for the Butler Building in the City Yards, proposals were submitted by the following firms. 9-29-54
