11/15/62 On December 15th, the Sands will have been in operation 10 years ?╟÷ or 87,6000 continuous hours ?╟÷ or 5,256,000 minutes. Probably the most heavily trafficked resort hotel in the world ?╟÷ with an estimated 21,400,000 people having passed thru, stayed there as guests, seen a show, or used any one of the dozen facilities. This boils down to about 5615 people a day on the average. Lightest traffic in any one day since Sands opened was 715 guests or spectators on a snowy day at Easter time about 7 years ago. Heaviest traffic counted 32,000 people passing thru on a Tuesday during the famous "Summit" Copa show in January of 1961. The magnet for the traffic and business is the entertainment at the Sands, produced since it opened by Jack Entratter. By Anniversary time, he will have presented 7,486 shows in the Copa Room, and 36,510 hours of continuous entertainment in the Lounge. Jack has spent some $18,700,000 on entertainer's salaries alone, signing 35,150 show salary checks since 1952, for about 2652 different performers of all types.
