September 16, 1966 Mr. Charles Bloomer 44 Gilardy Drive Concord, Calif. 94S20 Dear Mr. Bloomer: Just in ease you want further information about the rubber bridge tournament at the Sands: All pairs play for the first two days, you play 6 matches each day, 8 hands each match, rubber bridge scoring. The hands are shuffled and dealt right at the table. If you win 6 or more of the 12 matches, you en<jjer the knockouts on the third day; otherwise you play in the consolation. In the knockout matches, the first two rounds are 12 hands each. Later rounds are 16 hands. Very late roundsare even longer, and one loss eliiminates the losers. Practically all bidding is standard American ?╟÷ srtrong 2-bids, strong notrump, Blackwwod, orddnary takeout Roubles, Stayman A pair is allowed a maximum of 3 deviations from standard bidding - provided that the deviations can be quickly and simple explained. Play is from noon to 6 p.m. (or slightly later) each day. This leaves the evening open for shows, entertainment, etc. We will seed the well known players into sections to make sues that no section is overloaded with them. We are therefore encouraging players to send their Entries in ahead of time, I hope very much to see you at the Sands, Oct, 9. If you have any other questions, please write or phone. Also, I will answer questions all day long oh Sunday Oct. 9. c ' Sincerely, Alfred Sheinwold
