WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Board of Commissioners of the City of Las Vegas to express publicly its appreciation to the DOWNTOWN OPTIMIST CLUB and EVENING OPTIMIST CLUB for their untiring efforts, assistance and commendable interest in the youth of our City; and WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners are cognizant of the fine service these two Optimist Clubs, as well as other civic groups are rendering in assisting in such worthwhile activities, and by setting an example not only for our youth, but for other citizens of this community, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of the City of Las Vegas that the Board does hereby express its gratitude to and publicly commend the DOWNTOWN OPTIMIST CLUB and the EVENING OPTIMIST CLUB, and the officers and members thereof for their public service to the citizens of the City of Las Vegas. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be entered upon the official records of the City of Las Vegas, and that copies be transmitted forthwith to these organizations. ADOPTED and APPROVED this 6th day of August, 1958. Motion seconded by Commissioner Whipple and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. Absent: Commissioner Bunker. Commissioner Bunker returned to the meeting. ORDINANCE NO. 772 An ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 17, SECTION 11, CODE OF LAS VEGAS, Bus Licenses NEVADA, 1949, PROVIDING FOR LICENSE FEES FOR PERSONS OPERATING A MOTOR TRANSPORTATION SERVICE, EXCLUSIVE OF TAXICABS, WITHIN THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS; PROVIDING OTHER MATTERS RELATING THERETO; REPEALING CONFLICTING ORDINANCES, AND PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION THEREOF, having been reported on favorably by Commissioners Fountain and Whipple, was read to the Board. Commissioner Whipple moved the above entitled Ordinance No. 772 be adopted. Motion seconded by Commissioner Fountain and carried by the following vote: Commissioners Bunker, Fountain, Sharp, Whipple and His Honor voting aye; noes, none. PROPOSED ORDINANCE An ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, REGULATING THE Building Code ERECTION, CONSTRUCTION, ENLARGEMENT, ALTERATION, REPAIR, MOVING, REMOVAL, CONVERSION, DEMOLITION, OCCUPANCY, EQUIPMENT, USE, HEIGHT, AREA AND MAINTENANCE OF BUILDINGS OR STRUCTURES WITHIN THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: PROVIDING FOR THE ISSUANCE OF PERMITS AND COLLECTION OF FEES THEREFOR: PROVIDING FOR THE INSPECTIONS OF ALL WORK FOR WHICH A PERMIT IS REQUIRED; PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION THEREOF; REPEALING ORDINANCES #439, 576, 639, 676, and 697 AND ALL OTHER ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND PROVIDING OTHER MATTERS PROPERLY RELATED THERETO, was read by title and referred to Commissioners Bunker and Sharp for recommendation. PROPOSED ORDINANCE An ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE RELATING TO UNSAFE BUILDING, PROVIDING FOR ALTERATION, Unsafe Building Code REPAIR, REMOVING, DEMOLITION, VACATING OR MAINTENANCE OF ALL BUILDINGS AND STRUCTURES IN THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS, NEVADA; REPEALING SECTIONS 203 AND 204 OF THE UNIFORM BUILDING CODE; PROVIDING FOR A BOARD OF BUILDINGS AND SAFETY AND PRESCRIBING THEIR DUTIES; ADDING NEW SECTIONS TO THE UNIFORM BUILDING CODE DEALING WITH UNSAFE BUILDINGS; PROVIDING OTHER MATTERS PROPERLY RELATED THERETO; REPEALING ALL CONFLICTING ORDINANCES; AND PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION THEREOF, was read by title and referred to Commissioners Bunker and Sharp for recommendation. PROPOSED ORDINANCE Commissioners Bunker and Sharp, committee for recommendation on the proposed Uniform Uniform Housing Code Housing Code Ordinance, requested additional time before reporting. PROPOSED ORDINANCE Commissioners Fountain and Whipple, committee for recommendation on the proposed Fire Fire Prevention Code Prevention Code Ordinance requested additional time before reporting. HELIPORT REQUEST At this time Mr. Jack Walsh of the Silver Palace and other representatives of the Downtown Clubs were present to request an expression from the Commission relative to their proposal to construct a Heliport on top of the Silver Palace. Mr. Hall, the pilot of the Helicopter and owner of the Las Vegas Airways Co. was present and explained the reason for the request and the relative safety in operation. Thereafter the Commission advised this group that they were not prepared to act on this request at this time, and asked that when additional information has been received relative to safety conditions, proposed lighting, type of construction and other details, that this information be submitted to the City Manager for study and recommendation prior to action by the Commission. MERITORIOUS SALARY City Manager Kennedy presented a list of meritorious salary increases as approved by the INCREASES Civil Service Board of Trustees, and recommended approval.
