The Governor of Nevada and the gaming authorities were publically placed on notice some months ago about the force of monopoly. Legislators and others have warned that our state must not be put up for sale. Only , ~ A 4 our state authorities can stop this from happening. The Las Vegas Strip is the heart of Nevada?s major industry, and the decisions that are made by the one person or group that has effective control of the Strip will affect every citizen of this State. Ecomonic control and political control go hand in hand. Does anyone believe that our state and local authorities could resist the massive pressures of anyone who owns the heart of our major industry? A good many persons feel that decision making power has already been transferred from government to the Hughes Tool Company by the Company?s major acquisitions of gaming interests on our Strip. Most Nevadans feel that the deal to sell the heart of Nevada's economy has already been made, and that the state is only waiting to rubber stamp the act until the people have been lulled into disinterest. The danger is clear. Nevadans have only themselves to blame if they do not, at this critical stage, insist that the Governor and the gaming authorities W & H lstop what they are obviously encouraging - the monopoly of our ?????pr-economic and political lives. If the people cannot prevail now, it is most doubtful that they will ever do so in the future. \
