    Las Vegas Age May 19, 1939 Page F ive Public Utilities Get Tax Boost The Nevada tax commission at the session this week for the pur­pose of fixing assessed valuations on public utilities, reduced valua­tions on raili^oad to the total of $521,000. This amount includes the $161,000 valuation of last year on the two short—line railroads aban doned in this state, namely, Eureka- Nevada, $111,000, and Nevada Cen­tral, $50,000. The reductions for railroads:-.. Los Angeles and Salt Lake, St. Thomas branch, $10,000; Boulder Canyon branch $50,000. Oregon Short. Line, Rogerson branch, $250,000. Tonopah & Goldfield, $50,000. Assessments on sleeping car com­panies were reduced by $17,213. The Western Union’s assessed valuation reduction was $112. A cut of $2,500 was made in the assessment on an intracounty tele­phone and telegraph line. Southern Nevada Power Co. (Las Vegas), $175,000. Western States Utilities Company, / $7,500. t S Las Vegas Water Co,,$15,000. ^ Amalgamated Pioche M. & S. Co., $5,000. Sierra Pacific Power Co. (water department), $38,750. Last Chance Ditch Co. (new), $ 10, 000. Michael M. Paps (Boulder Dam water system, (new), $5,000. Southern Nevada Telephone Co., $.40,000. Numerous changes, were made in the assessed valuations on com—. mon carrier, bus and trucl$ com­panies, based on, equipment, mileage and income.
